ITALY: A man that had previously been expelled from Germany for being a "social danger" and returned to Italy for mental health rehabilitation was arrested for intending to carry out a stabbing attack in downtown Reggio Emilia on behalf of ISIS, according to Italian State Police.

It’s an old video revisited because activist Rudy Martinez was back in the news, but it cracks me up every time. Why is this filmed like a satire mockumentary?

Many people just have meme knowledge about social issues and current events. The illusory truth effect is a documented phenomenon in which repeated exposure to information, even false, engenders familiarity with an idea or sentiment. You don’t consider something is right, it feels right because it’s comfortable and familiar. When you’re bombarded on social media with bots and propaganda accounts spamming the same narrative every day, you’re not just being tricked by fake news, your feelings are being rewired. Propaganda often makes appeals through emotion, but repetitive propaganda alters your feelings. Consequently, people can confidently hold beliefs even when they don’t know anything about an issue, because they have a sense of what’s right, not actual knowledge. On social media, where cultural information is spread through repetitive imagery or phrases, and there is invitation to join in mimicry of the vehicle of information, the illusory truth effect is all the more impactful. Repetition as a learning mechanism is wired into our brains, as experienced when learning a new skill. Engagement with repeated information or sentiments by doomscrolling through an unending social media feed leads to a memetic sense of the world around you. Consider: How do you know what you know? And how much of your perception of world events is shaped by the fact it’s just been repeated to you as fact again and again?

Iranian hacker group Handala is offering bounties on people that it claimed were part of Israeli naval forces that intercepted the Gaza flotilla, and while I have to look into it, at a glance, half are women and older men, making it unlikely they’re current Shayetet 13.
