@Emarged It's slow but has a unique twist. If you get really bored, fast forward through the slow stuff and be sure to watch the ending.

@pidpare @AVARY No they're not. An actor takes a job. The director is not some god. They're often a 24 year old who got the gig because his dad is a producer or his uncle financed the movie. Plenty of actors think their directors are idiots but take a role for money or other reasons.

@AVARY Exactly. There should be no middle man between a director and his actors. Actors are supposed to trust their director in all matters related to a film, including intimate scenes. They're all adults and can talk things out as needed. No third parties need get involved.

On a set that can afford it, intimacy coordinators are necessary. I know of one famous sex scene where it theoretically was a best case scenario. Actress had previously done an artistic film with at least 10 minutes of sexual content, was friendly with actor, her husband was on set, she trusted the director, she signed up for film knowing content, but was young and basically forced into it. (Meaning she agreed to shoot). The director found the experience upsetting and said "it felt like raping your leading lady." He found it traumatizing to be put in that position and he was in his 60s with Oscar nominations after directing at least 10 movies. An intimacy coordinator works with talent and the director. They plan everything out together. They discuss and plan exactly what is going to be shown, what is expected, how to raise an objection, how to take a break if they need to, and have a trained person on set in case there is an issue that needs to be negotiated or handled in the moment.
Roger Avary@AVARY

This is 100% true & should have been obvious, were we not living in upside down insane times. The director should be (and traditionally has been) the sole coordinator of intimacy between actors. The buck stops there, for better or worse.

@joshstifter I’ll check it out. Friedkin is hole in my movie watching. I’ve only seen 12 Angry Men, Blue Chips and The French Connection. Need to see Sorcerer, The Exorcist, and To Live and Die in LA in particular.

Started listening to The Friedkin Connection & immediately got sucked in. I could listen to filmmakers talk process, chaos, and this sick obsession we have forever. Now I want to go make something dangerous & irresponsible. To Live and Die in ATL? #Books #NowReading #Filmmaking

@AVARY It also gave directors the ability to explore different styles without forcing them into a feature concept. Fincher did 1920s/30s glamour cinematography in Vogue and then updated Lang's Metropolis a few months later with Express Yourself.

@CinemaTweets1 Also directed an excellent movie A WALK ON THE MOON. Diane Lane had been in movies for 20 years but that film made her into a major leading actress. Same for Viggo Mortensen.

Two of the last three winners of the Oscar for Best Picture share at least one thing in common: they both feature Tony Goldwyn. Goldwyn, who is the grandson of MGM’s former mogul Sam Goldwyn, has deep roots in the industry. But the guy can act- he’s done so for four decades.

A weird thing about working on a studio lot is that you can spend a whole year annoyed at George Clooney because he never even uses his spot and you have to park far away.

@shhhbreslin @darthgordita Television writing to some extent. some production companies used to have discretionary funds. Financiers /studios bought more and ordered more drafts of projects without attachments. Just more work floating around. Today a project sale is a miracle.

@MattBelloni There is no value in a "profile" like this. It does not reveal his artistic process. Reporter is pushed to amplify every ugly or unflattering moment or else nobody will talk about it. They only exist for marketing a specific movie but bad impression of actor can last forever.

@mindloz08 An unproduced screenplay that was never used for the movie version had the hero ending up in a threesome with two versions of her husband on the wedding night. Naughty exploitation within safe boundaries of the same concept. This isn't half as fun.

@ZaidJilani Alpha speak is Step 1. The paragraph itself requires a roadmap to follow. Overly complicated density of ideas. But a step in the right direction for D's learning communication for the 2020s.
