Federal agents and DHS called it a “political stunt” amid protests, Antifa flags, and a hunger strike by detainees. Protesters even chanted “Let Sherrill in!” outside the locked gates. This clearly shows who really holds the power on immigration: the federal government. ICE and DHS control these facilities. State politicians cannot override federal immigration enforcement.
