1-month today our IPF Member Liam O’Keeffe @ck4ipf will be starting his climb up Kilimanjaro, as he aims to raise £50,000 for the @RFU Injured Players Foundation - @englandrugby's charity. Liam’s incredible fundraising challenge comes 10 years after he sustained a spinal cord injury during a rugby match in Bristol. If you’d like to support Liam’s challenge, visit ➡️bit.ly/46wHBCq Or comment your good luck messages below! #Rugbyfamily support should make this month’s gruelling training and altitude training just that little bit easier! 🙏 @SMOBRUGBY @BristolSaracens @Southmeadrfc @ADOB_RFC @bishopstonrfc @GRFUrugby @BristolReferees @BristolBears @LockleazeSports #spinalcordinjury #spinalcordinjuryawarenessmonth

Congrats to Dr Meena Nayar, our Web Education Committee chair, for the feature in the BMJ Careers section. The piece highlights how rewarding the specialty of Rehabilitation Medicine can be and how our colleague Dr Celine Lakra found an inspiring mentor and trainer in Dr Nayar.
The BMJ@bmj_latest

While caring for a patient with particularly complex needs, Meenakshi Nayar came across a specialty she had never heard of—rehabilitation medicine. This was the start of an exciting new career, @Erin_Dean_ reports bmj.com/content/387/bm…

@AlexBThomson @drruthannharpur People turn to private providers out of desperation - post natal NHS care needs serious improvement. It’s currently focused on safe sleep, safeguarding and weight gain - weight gain immediately post birth a bit of an oxymoron for a breastfed baby.

@AlexBThomson @drruthannharpur many quickly say ‘you don’t have enough’not realising you have to ride the demand&embrace cluster feeds. Education and facts go out the window when your exhausted #mumof2- breastfed both til2years of age- but with my first nearly gave up@day3 due to no practical pragmatic support

Big questions here Why are lactation consultants, who are not medically qualified -diagnosing tongue ties and performing surgery on newborns -advising GPs to prescribe enormous doses of domperidone off licence to increase milk supply without appreciating the potential for severe psychiatric symptoms on withdrawal or evidence or safety for the infant -suggesting that women obtain the medication through online pharmacies by claiming travel sickness or via Facebook groups obtaining and distributing it illegally from abroad -and why are some GPs prescribing it on the recommendation of medically unqualified lactation consultants? -and what on earth is happening to women that sprucing large doses of a medication by illegal means in order to increase breastmilk supply seems like a good idea despite clear risks to them and their baby of doing so? Imho ... anyone who has ever given information exaggerating the evidence regarding the benefits of breastfeeding and/or denied the reality that breastmilk insufficiency and other infra to keep breastfeeding problems are common bears some responsibility for this diabolical state of affairs Do we need more breastfeeding support? No - we need more reality checks!
Infant Feeding Alliance@FeedingAlliance

Let's talk about lactation consultants and breastfeeding support... @RoseStokes shares her (not uncommon) experience of her breastmilk not coming in. There isn't enough milk to exclusively bf, as per every recommendation ever made. Cue a lactation consultant to save the day
