I hope Mayors across Ontario and Canada are consulting with their legal depts abt this. Every lawyer practicing in Canada took Constitutional law. And every lawyer knows the NW clause was not intended as a political tool in the toolbox, nor should it be used as such. It's a very serious and grave thing for Mayors to suggest that the right to life be denied to ppl based on their housing status. In other words to suggest that it only applies to people who have housing. Mayors have lots of tools to solve homelessness as does the Premier and the Prime Minister. Rather than dreaming up ways to criminalize and institutionalize the most vulnerable population - why not work together and PROMOTE Charter rights by using your resources and powers for some social good.
