Today we're highlighting a blog on a past project, featuring the Yiben community in Sierra Leone. Historically, their access to care had suffered due to remoteness and marginalisation. This project saw the building of a new health facility, also in keeping with local traditions.

"Poverty and marginalization mediate the relationship between climate change and health, making adverse health outcomes not an inevitable consequence of climate change." This amazing work by Laura & team builds on Stema's fieldwork, & is being presented @theAGU #ChapmanConference

Resourcefulness is one of the key theories that underlines Stema's work in #communityhealth. It aims to maximise the use of local resources whilst acknowledging that they are often constrained by social and political reasons outside the power of individuals in a community.

"Toward resourcefulness: pathways for community positive health," is a powerful article by @LauraERPeters and team, reviewing the way that #communityhealth is understood, determined, and promoted, and acknowledging the social and political factors that lead to inequity.

The concept of #communityhealth is close to the heart of Stema. We believe that strong, positive community health can be powerful and self-sustaining, and that it means more than simply everyone in the community having good health -- it is a collaborative, ongoing process.
