@John_Stepek @Frencheconomics Not necessarily. Occasions have become less frequent overall. It’s also been noted that Savings rates have increased, as consumers have re-prioritised….

@Stennins @Frencheconomics Interesting, but assuming the activity is also displaced (eg not eating out in London but eating out elsewhere)

Pullback in services producer prices in Q2 to 3.1% is the encouraging forward look in this morning's inflation data. The dominance of the accommodation and food sector in services inflation is striking - an area where both constrained (labour) supply and strong demand are coalescing.

Probably more in this inflation release for the hawks on the Bank of England MPC. Compound core CPI in 2024 tracking levels seen in 2022/23, and 5.7% YoY. Stubborn - despite the disinflationary impact of energy costs. Most encouraging data point (for doves) was producer price inflation pulling back to 1.4% YoY.

@John_Stepek @Frencheconomics There is still growth for the market this year, but it is far harder to come by. Volumes are starting to increase (have been subdued- tube/office/tourism etc) but frequency curbed - if it costs more each time, and you have less cash, you’ll do it less….

@Stennins @Frencheconomics Has spending on leisure/eating out actually been reined in? (Just surprises me). Do you have the figures (I'm guessing so given your bio)

@Frencheconomics Given the pressure from minimum wage, that seems pretty impressive (unless I'm missing something, which is quite possible)

Co-op has done a deal to open around 160 convenience stores on EG petrol forecourts. After selling its own forecourt business to Asda, run by Mohsin Issa. Zuber Issa sold his stake in Asda. And now runs EG Group's UK forecourts. Got that?

This is a brilliant move by #AzzurriGroup as we forecast further growth in #FastFood and as #CasualDining moves towards that sector. Despite a highly competitive environment, we still forecast further growth for spicy #FriedChicken over the #next5years #futurefoodservice

Azzurri Group - @askitalian and @wearezizzi - signs deal to bring @hotchickendaves to the UK; plans to open 60 sites across the UK & Ireland; first set to open Q1 next year in central London #propelinfo

@hwallop @Kantar Very good article, well researched- even if that did involve lots of fried chicken! Next piece - bubble/boba tea brands and dessert cafes… Both similarly forecasted for significant growth, and both targeting a similar demographic. Both also replacing the pub as a third space.

How did fried chicken and chicken shops take over Britain? 🍔 Beef sold from fast food outlets: £1.98bn in last 12months in GB. 🍗 Chicken sold from fast food outlets: £4.45bn. The equivalent of £70 for every GB resident. (Source: @Kantar) A🧵/1…

@willgkelleher @TimesSport Ref picked this up at half time, first scrum in 2nd half, de Groot stands up, gets penalised (not for not driving straight) and then gets replaced. Refs have got to get better at managing illegal scrummaging ( see Andrew Porter). But 8/10 for De Groot was wrong!

So, is @timhortonsuk slowing down expansion? This new site in Peterborough has finished building, but no sign of shopfitting yet… Or is there a delay in shopfitting capabilities? Just down the road, there is a new #Drivethru site on a shared basis for @BurgerKingUK and…..1/2

Regrettably, as services inflation remains sticky - due to national min wages etc - rate remains at 5.25%. We did forecast a drop in the summer, but it will be the later stages, not the earlier one! (Not that there’s been much summer!) #FutureFoodservice bbc.co.uk/news/live/c033…
