Yesterday we had a lab meeting with puzzling results and then I came home and saw a double helix in the sky!! Maybe a sign to look more closely at the DNA?

This week in rad onc resident didactics, we celebrated Anal Cancer Awareness Day (March 21st) by learning how to take better care of patients with anal cancer. Tuesday we reviewed historic and new trials trying to personalize treatment. Wednesday colorectal surgeon @JoshSmithMDPhD, GI med onc @VanMorrisMD & my favorite GI rad onc @PrajnanDasMD joined us to discuss the work up, treatment, follow up and toxicity management for difficult cases. Today 3 survivors of anal cancer shared their stories, spoke on toxicity from the patient perspective and gave invaluable advice. We also learned humor is a very helpful coping mechanism for many patients. One survivor even brought a box of anus shaped chocolates for one lucky resident to take home I may be biased- but I think it was our best week of didactics of the year. 💜💚
