@ShuAdultNursing Is Blackboard down today? I’ve been unable to log in for a couple of hours. I can access timetable and s. record through MyHallam, but get ‘The site can’t be reached’ when I try Blackboard?
@SorchaTheOG Agreed, I’ve been put off ordering a cauliflower steak (regardless of how thoughtful the accompanying items are) because it’s usually a pound less than the chicken option. I’m not paying £14 when I could get 7 WHOLE cauliflowers for that
What goes through the mind of "chefs" when they decide the only vegan option on the menu should be a lump of cauliflower for £25? Like I genuinely want to know what they are thinking
@ClaireJBradford About to start 3rd year Adult Nursing, can completely understand where you’re coming from. Starting in 09/2020, we’re both a covid cohort; I’m sometimes in disbelief that I chose to start nursing in a pandemic!
@Joclyn@stoltz_co_uk@ZackBornstein Agreed! I’m adjusting the volume level all the time; one scene has someone speaking at a barely audible level, cuts to one with a gun/vehicle/a street scene and it’s roaring sound. I put the subtitles on cos it’s simpler than having to turn it up/down 2 or 3 every few minutes!
@stoltz_co_uk@ZackBornstein Ok, but then why when it’s all put together can’t the recording (or whatever it’s called) of the talking be made louder than the effects and the music? It’s someone’s doing that so many people can’t understand the dialogue on any show or movie they’ve watched at home since 2009.
@sophienursing Great idea! Could include the email address of the LEM (or whoever they would need to speak to to raise concerns), the ext. number for if they need to ring in sick, any Geeky Medics/Dr Matt & Dr Mike YouTubes that might feature common conditions on your unit 👍
I’m making a student nurse welcome book, to help students prepare and settle in to their placement on our ward. I’m including common treatments, handover abbreviations, additional learning opportunities eg time with CNS. Is there anything else people would find helpful? ☺️
Day number 42.
Owami is still missing,we are still appealing to everyone for help in #FindOwamiDavies . Please don’t stop the good support you’ve been giving by retweeting , sharing and tagging. We miss Owami, we need Owami home💔.

@NellFrizzell Definitely shared sense of humour/interest of t.v shows we watched growing up so when we quote them, the other recognises the reference. Making him belly laugh is my favourite thing!
@MsCherrieOntop Can I just say if you came to my school for story time, it would’ve been the best day ever! Delivery alone would’ve been better than the stuffy, dry but well-meaning experiences I had ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜 🌈
@jade_w08 I’m 37, end of 2nd year; I toyed with idea of nursing during my twenties but I would’ve cried in the sluice so many times if I started it then! The jobs I’ve had since (particularly patient-facing ones) have helped build my resilience and EI. I’m in awe of my younger counterparts
I am now 30 years old (31 next month 😳) I am a 2nd year student nurse, yet I feel, 18 year old me would of dropped out by now. Life I general, builds our skills. Mature students - How would your younger self deal with training? Could you have done it? I'm not so sure myself
@meglottesmum@jade_w08 Sounds trivial try to be organised! Take time to familiarise yourself with Blackboard/PebblePad & make a WhatsApp with your Academic group; they have been such a support, I would’ve collapsed in tears so many times without mine!
Another placement signed off!!! 🥳 which means one placement, 2 skills to be signed off and (if my calculations are correct) 459 hours left until I’m qualified!🤞
@essexsarahlee Reminds me of when I tried to get a Transpennine student rail card; the discounts/student offers only extended to the age 25. I should be able to use the discount as a student, whether I am 22 or 49 or 63.
Nursing students are usually mature, they are often parents and household breadwinners.
If we want more nurses we are going to need to find strategies to support nursing students better in the future
