Neutron reflectometry instrument scientist @isisneutronmuon. Enjoy watching cars go round in circles and irradiating small volumes of liquid.

Stunning views of the Aurora Borealis in South Oxfordshire... Especially special watching the lights dance across the sky with family who are visiting. Isn't nature breathtaking!

How do you improve on spending special and rare time with close family? Answer - get to see the aurora borealis with them as well! FYI we are in south Oxfordshire - wow!!

A fascinating tour of ⁦@isisneutronmuon⁩ today by No1 son ⁦@StephenCLH⁩ We leant a lot (but can’t remember most of it😉). A wonderful facility that the UK should be very proud of.

@adsquires @evilokapi @birdsbayes No idea I'm afraid. For this expt, you'd probably want to try and match Si rather than air, so you can match the whole substrate and film at once. I'd be cautious of any domain formation occurring throughout sputtering. This may end up dominating the GISANS signal

@adsquires @isisneutronmuon @RobBarker @DrERDraper In principle, absolutely, but depending on what you want to measure, we'd need to modify some cells. We quite often use Au coatings on Si, which would probably work well, except Au doesnt stick to Si very well, so we need an extra adhesion layer underneath (eg, Cr or Fe/Ni)

@TeamPerrier @isisneutronmuon Thanks for the invitation to visit! It was great to be back, talk about all the cool developments happening @warwickchem, and design some fun experiments using neutrons. While we can do a vast range of exciting science, what we apparently cannot do for you is iron a shirt 😬

@ILLGrenoble It was great to be back in Grenoble. Thanks for hosting us! The late summer sun was a very welcome contrast to the perpetual British drizzle. Sun, science, neutrons and cheese makes for some happy chemists 😉

Spent the last week back at @ILLGrenoble collecting some exciting data in collaboration with @TeamPerrier. Enormous thanks to newly-qualified Langmuir trough experts @MasetRamon and @laroquesophie93 for all their hard work, and everyone at the ILL who helped this expt happen.
