@Satu_Hakkinen @TeamPerrier Fantastic work Satu, many congratulations! I'm glad I had the opportunity to contribute towards this paper 🎉

@olihammond And, if ever in doubt, proven himself as a top notch team player...

A fascinating tour of @isisneutronmuon today by No1 son @StephenCLH We leant a lot (but can’t remember most of it😉). A wonderful facility that the UK should be very proud of.

English

@adsquires @evilokapi @birdsbayes No idea I'm afraid. For this expt, you'd probably want to try and match Si rather than air, so you can match the whole substrate and film at once. I'd be cautious of any domain formation occurring throughout sputtering. This may end up dominating the GISANS signal
English

Does anyone know if you can do GI-SANS on solid-liquid interface with an electrode? What's the best coating to put on a silicon block that would still let neutrons through? @isisneutronmuon @RobBarker @DrERDraper @StephenCLH?
English

@adsquires @isisneutronmuon @RobBarker @DrERDraper I should caveat this... as much as I am quite good at bouncing neutrons off flat things, I am in no way an electrochemist! I'll ask around for some suggestions from people more knowledgeable than me!
English

@adsquires @isisneutronmuon @RobBarker @DrERDraper In principle, absolutely, but depending on what you want to measure, we'd need to modify some cells. We quite often use Au coatings on Si, which would probably work well, except Au doesnt stick to Si very well, so we need an extra adhesion layer underneath (eg, Cr or Fe/Ni)
English

@TeamPerrier @isisneutronmuon Thanks for the invitation to visit! It was great to be back, talk about all the cool developments happening @warwickchem, and design some fun experiments using neutrons. While we can do a vast range of exciting science, what we apparently cannot do for you is iron a shirt 😬
English

Great to have @StephenCLH back for the day for an overview of what neutron scattering and @isisneutronmuon can do for you!

English

Great having you visit @isisneutronmuon for a thoroughly enjoyable experiment. Looking forward to seeing you next time! Now just all that data to analyse 😉

Last samples loaded at @OffSpecISIS ! Dear @StephenCLH hope to see you soon!

@evilokapi @stuartcantrill Scruffy, bearded gingers are not to be trusted with chemistry...
English

@stuartcantrill The Fuck is this?
Lack of PPE is the least of his problems.
He's not even looking at what he's doing...

@DrHorrell @XtalGrrl @clairepizzey @evilokapi @Pinins @HelenaTaberman @Helen_E_MC @jonwright76 @johannaphys @Dr_TimP @DannyAxford There's also the standard set of screw ups: not connecting water bath tubing properly to cells and spewing glycol everywhere, setting off an overnight run with the shutter closed etc etc. All fun and games
English

@DrHorrell @XtalGrrl @clairepizzey @evilokapi @Pinins @HelenaTaberman @Helen_E_MC @jonwright76 @johannaphys @Dr_TimP @DannyAxford Luckily, the detector cables pressed against a bump strip to stop it going too high, but had an hour of clambering under the bench tentatively tugging cables, some with very high voltage, others with water (always a fun combo) to release them so the beamline could move again.
English

Calling beamline scientists! We are none of us perfect, and well all make mistakes. So give me your best beamline accident stories. I'll start.

@ILLGrenoble It was great to be back in Grenoble. Thanks for hosting us! The late summer sun was a very welcome contrast to the perpetual British drizzle. Sun, science, neutrons and cheese makes for some happy chemists 😉
English

Glad you could come back to Grenoble to enjoy our late summer atmosphere :)
Congratulations to all involved!

Spent the last week back at @ILLGrenoble collecting some exciting data in collaboration with @TeamPerrier. Enormous thanks to newly-qualified Langmuir trough experts @MasetRamon and @laroquesophie93 for all their hard work, and everyone at the ILL who helped this expt happen.

@TeamPerrier @tg_floyd Congrats Dr. @tg_floyd, very well deserved! Hope you had some good celebrations and are looking forward to the next adventure.
English

Congratulations Dr. @tg_floyd 🎉The group won’t be the same without our lone POx ranger and all round ‘we can fix it’ guy! Wishing you all the best at AZ ;)

Glad to see the @TeamPerrier review out on the self-assembly of Cyclic Peptides. Mammoth effort from all involved (tweeps: @QiaoSong_Supra, @MariaKariuki4, @JuliaYRho, @SebPerrier) and chuffed to have been able to sprinkle some scattering goodness on top. pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/ac…
