I loved Robert Prytz at Rangers (I was in a minority of one among the fans). A thoughtful, technical midfielder, a modern player and a star for Sweden, who eventually got drummed out of Ibrox and had to settle for the bleak existence of life in Serie A. The 17 year old Prytz had played for Malmo in the 1979 European Cup final versus Nottingham Forest. Later in life, as a reporter, I interviewed Robert twice for The Times and reminded him of some of his great moments with Rangers, notably in Europe v Dortmund and Inter Milan. He left the field to a standing ovation against Liam Brady’s Inter when subbed after 83 minutes in the home leg in Glasgow in November 1984. Prytz came to Rangers 10 years too soon, when his style of play hadn’t yet arrived in Scottish football. Happy Birthday to a very special and likeable man.👏
