@kbadillou @pamwis I was the first HCI hire in a very traditional CS department and I have so many thoughts. There are challenges but also many benefits, some that we’re not immediately obvious to me. It would be great to share and learn from others!

Hi HCI friends! @pamwis & I are writing an article on what it is like to be an HCI researcher in a traditional CS Dept (e.g., resources & support needed for us to be successful). If you would like to join this effort, please PM us. We hope this will be a collaborative effort 😊

@SEPTA_SOCIAL @SEPTA Thank you for that clarification. My mistake thinking it was SEPTA. Are the eventual plans to build a station in Poplar? The nearest stations are a 15 minute walk?

@Stephen_MacNeil @SEPTA Hi Stephen, I believe you're referring to the PATCO project at Franklin Square? Keep in mind, we're not affiliated with that. There is indeed a subway station not too far from 9th/Girard. ^AS

Excited to share my first journal paper has been published in @acmtoce 🥳! It's a review of undergrad student attitudes towards CS ethics interventions that identifies contexts and circumstances for successful (and unsuccessful) interventions!🤔 Read more: dl.acm.org/doi/10.1145/36…

SIGCSE discussions are heating up: LLMs threaten traditional assessment. To address this concern, some have adopted visual programming problems. In our new paper, GPT-4V solved 96.7% of visually represented problems. Is it time for #ungrading yet? researchgate.net/publication/37…

📢 My first co-authored demo paper explores providing users with capabilities to oversee and control how large language models, like #ChatGPT, perceive and retain conversational context. Less breakdown, more steering. 📄 Read the paper here: arxiv.org/abs/2308.01542

Had the privilege of working with my wonderful colleague (and former student) Jason Ding on paper that was awarded an honorable mention at C&C. Check it out, it is worth a read!

We will be presenting a technical demo @acm_cc! Come talk to us! We present an intelligent creativity support tool CausalMapper that leverages LLM to not only help designers ideate solutions but also the underlying consequences of the intended design intervention

To be clear, I did try to mitigate this bias as much as possible in my review, and it was a great paper.

I just included a positionality statement in my review! I’ve never seen such a statement in a review, but I thought it was important to be transparent about a bias I have against a specific design method. Would this be a useful criteria to require for future reviews? 🤔

It feels like we're at a critical moment for AI and civil society. There's a real possibility that the last 5+ years of (hard fought albeit still inadequate) improvements in responsible AI release practices will be obliterated.
