@creatordamon mentioned that he records all of his voiceovers as talking heads.
I wish all creators did this!
If b-roll is lacking, it’s always good to have the option of going back to the talking head.
We do raw collabs (to create one video) and sometimes creators send voice files and b-roll clips. But if the b roll clip is wrong or simply not long enough to match the voiceover line. We have to ask them to send more b roll clips.
If we had the talking head file, we wouldn’t need to bother you asking for more clips.

@jaclynforero So odd. I’ve made so much skincare content and it’s excellent training for back camera usage, safe zones, optimal lighting, talking while using a product, etc. that you use on most other projects. I feel like if you can get skincare content right, you can do almost anything.

@nickcastle_ugc It’s also a mindset about value. I derive value from a job in a niche or a format where I want to gain experience and for that, I might be willing to sacrifice a little on the rate. Not all value is currency.

I had a client who paid me $40 to make a video for them 4 months into my UGC journey.
To date, that one client has paid me over $100k over the span of 2.5 years and they are still a retainer client of mine.
Last year they paid me $15k in one month to help them with some UGC projects and we still work together monthly.
Am I advocating for you to create a video for $40? No.
But I am advocating for you to think beyond the first invoice.
Had I focused so much on winning the negotiation I would have fumbled one of the biggest opportunities in my UGC career.
That’s all I’m saying.
Everybody’s story and journey is different. Do what’s best for you. Just keep an open mind.

Without knowing what brands you pitched, maybe look for less obvious angles that are still related to travel: sleep and digestive aids for managing time zone disruption; hangover prevention aids for too much fun on the trip; no-tarnish jewelry that can be worn in a pool; travel insurance - you get the idea. I just finished a travel-related project for a hoodie and bra because I reached out to a previous client and told them I had trios coming up. Look to current clients too and see what angles you can work. Good luck!

Today marks one year since I submitted my first paid UGC project!
Some stats:
💼 77 different brand clients
🔁13 were repeat clients
💻Projects came from 7 different platforms and many inbounds
Still so much to learn and so many areas to grow. Thank you to everyone whose advice, shared examples and words of encouragement have given me a tailwind along the way.

What’s a limiting belief you used to have that UGC helped you overcome?
For me it was thinking I needed to be “ready” before starting. Turns out starting is what makes you ready.
