If national racing doesnt develop them for it they have to go to JuniorGP and it's not been a successful path to developing a premier class talent

@matoxley @GoldandGoose @SamWTotter @denkmit going and then you'd want to race it against your mates. If WorldSBK suddenly switched regs you can guarantee that a 20 year old Oxo would be tearing away at a track on a fireblade or SSP bike just because he wants to go to fast

@matoxley @GoldandGoose @SamWTotter @denkmit You'd need manufacturers to completely stop making sportsikes tho because if WorldSBK ceased to exist today there'd be a replacement champioship setup for them. Think back to when you were a teenager and ripping around on prodie bikes. You'd always want to ride the fastest one...

@denkmit @gordoritchie @matoxley @GoldandGoose @SamWTotter The problem with dumbing down the regs is that the talent pipeline also gets tougher to develop out of BSB into World Championship level. Is that a good thing? Hard to know but TV numbers arent great for BSB (gates are healthy) and money seems tough to find too

@gordoritchie @matoxley @SteveEnglishGP @GoldandGoose @SamWTotter BSB has already shown that they're not afraid to dumb down their bikes if it makes for better entertainment, and I'd imagine that every round of MotoAmerica and most rounds of WorldSBK would kill for BSB's gate numbers

@denkmit @matoxley @GoldandGoose @SamWTotter Other side of the manufacturer coin is that riders in WorldSBK get paid because there's manufacturer involvement. That's also the case in WorldSSP for riders (especially with QJ, ZX Moto and KOVE all coming in) are getting paid to race

@SteveEnglishGP @matoxley @GoldandGoose @SamWTotter The fact that production racing needs manufacturer support highlights the problem, though. I'd rather see €50k race bikes where anyone can realistically put together a team than MotoGP Lite

In terms of making a change in an ideal world where you make the rules do you think changing to holligans as the premier class would put 100,000 fans thru the door at Assen like in the 90s?

@matoxley @SamWTotter @denkmit Inside the worldsbk paddock we've asked the manufacturers about this many times and they always say the same thing that they want to use sportsbikes (specifically 1000cc four cylinders) to showcase engineering ability & flagship models and not necessarily their most popular bike

@SamWTotter @denkmit Exactly. Been saying this for ages - superbike racing should follow the market, which means nakeds and adventure bikes. France has an adventure bike race series and the bikes look great. No one buys superbikes for the road anymore, so WSBK is a bit of a mirage
