Undoubtedly one of the most important videos we've* ever made. Within the first minute, you'll be alarmed at the general public perception of the danger cyclists pose to them vs cars. It's incredibly enlightening, and shows how much needs to be done to change the way we all live. •nothing to do with me, but a GREAT job by the team at GCN.

A very meaningful collaboration with @SteveGilbert84 et al @msk_health. We need to pause & think why we have been missing disadvantaged populations who need #PhysicalActivity interventions the most. Hint: maybe funding/academic reward systems have something to do with it? 🤔
Journal of Physical Activity & Health@JPAHjournal

Designing #physicalactivity intervention studies that sufficiently address cultural, linguistic and geographical #diversity is critical to ensure the reliability of comparisons with population-representative data doi.org/10.1123/jpah.2…

We’re told to exercise because it’s “good for us”. But are health benefits enough incentive for most people to exercise regularly? Truth is, most health benefits associated with exercise are both time-delayed and intangible. And both of these factors tend to devalue these benefits. Couple this with our tendency to: - Avoid effort - Prioritise immediate rewards, and - Play down our risk of future negative events For many, the short-term costs of exercise outweigh the long-term benefits. It’s tough to compete with other more sedentary options providing immediate rewards with minimal (or no) effort. Part of the solution? To increase our focus on the many short-term benefits of exercise - such as enhanced pleasure, mood, or enjoyment. If we don’t exercise for long-term health benefits, we should just because it can make us feel good. pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/36334885/

@billbellew @BicycleNSW @AdrianBauman @jkite13 @DrMelodyDing This morning Oxford St was a zoo, change is needed. Interested if they'll alter traffic lights at bottom of Oxford St to allow bikes to safely get across to other bike lanes. Currently cross 2-3 lanes of heavy traffic to get onto bike lanes on College St or down Liverpool St.

@00joeuhan From experience, up-stream neural involvement in an injury is rarely picked up by sport physio's who are much happier to simply hammer the down-stream pain site in the assumption this will resolve the problem. Massive need for education and upskilling required.

Take-home: Nerve pain is a likely driver of ALL chronic, complex pain. Yet it goes unrecognized amongst the sports medicine & ortho communities. If you're struggling with chronic pain - even if it FEELS muscular - consider nerve tension! And share: twitter.com/00joeuhan/stat…

BREAKING: one of the world's leading scientists on extinction says 70% of all Earth's big animals (mammals, birds) have been wiped out since 1918, along with 90% of SE Asia's tropical forests since 2000, and 98% of big ocean fish since 1973 - the rapid mass extinction scenario 🧵

Riding in Australia is overwhelming fear inducing. Many people driving cars are abusive, volatile and lack a basic understanding of the road rules or respect for other humans. I also drive a car and I manage navigate other road users just fine. Take me back to Spain.

@paula_watson Cyclists shouldn't need to ride in fear, or in the gutter, but if they choose to ride pavements, jump lights and ride like they're in the TdF though, my sympathy for them having problems with other road users is limited.

@paula_watson Until there is a separated infrastructure for cyclists, I think lots of drivers would benefit from cycling themselves. Need appreciation of how car/bike interactions feel for a cyclist. I reckon being a cyclist makes people better/more considerate drivers.

@FueledbyLOLZ Always think people leading group runs should have one of their team at the back. It ensures everyone has chance of company & limits chance of people getting lost or left injured and alone. Run leaders need to do better.
