I am one of the few members of Congress who has actually passed a voter ID law (on a bipartisan basis), which I did as Speaker of the House in North Carolina, and that’s why I proudly co-sponsored the SAVE Act. While I support strengthening mail-in ballot integrity, many states like Utah, Florida, Alaska, and Montana rely on the use of mail-in ballots to conduct their elections, and we should not be completely upending how states already securely conduct their elections. Even if this issue is fixed, the SAVE America Act still will not have the 60 votes required to pass it. While the so-called ‘talking filibuster’ has been floated as an option, there is a reason why previous attempts to utilize it in recent history have failed. A ‘talking filibuster’ would effectively make Chuck Schumer the new Senate Majority Leader, allowing Democrats to block every single Trump judge and executive branch nominee, and allow them to force endless votes on anything they want. Democrats would control the floor of the U.S. Senate until the end of the year. There are only two ways out of a ‘talking filibuster.’ The first is for Democrats to miraculously give up and allow Republicans to pass the bill with a simple majority. That is never going to happen, and anyone who claims it’s even a remote possibility is either completely misinformed or intentionally misleading the American people. The second way is for Republicans to substantially weaken or eliminate the filibuster altogether. I have made it crystal clear that I will never vote to do this. Eliminating the filibuster is a foolish and lazy idea pushed by politicians seeking short-term gain at the expense of causing irreparable long-term harm to our nation. Succeeding in eliminating the filibuster would significantly weaken the minority party, end the need for bipartisan compromise, and allow erratic swings in policy that would transform America for the worse. Those are just the consequences of a best-case outcome. During the last Congress, all of my Democratic colleagues currently serving supported nuking the filibuster to try to pass their own partisan election reform bill. Democrats were dead wrong to try to change the filibuster when they controlled the Senate, and Republicans would be dead wrong to try to change the filibuster now that we control the Senate. The only real path to address the American people’s declining confidence in our elections is for both parties to find common ground on legislation that supports universal adoption of voter ID, proof of citizenship, and other vital election integrity measures.

@SenRandPaul I agree that he should never of said he understands why someone attacked you. That is completely unacceptable. I also agree with what he said when he said you fight republicans more than you do democrats.

Disagreeing over a bill or political matter is one thing, but celebrating political violence is completely unacceptable.

I think some people need a reminder: Megyn Kelly tried to take Trump down before he was even elected in 2016. Steve Bannon was fired from the administration and later joined forces with Jeffrey Epstein to try to take Trump out. Massie has never been aligned with Trump. Tucker Carlson’s own texts in 2020 made clear how he actually felt. Candace Owens broke with Trump in 2022. MTG has never been a serious political force. So as you can see… Everyone leading the charge and telling you MAGA is dead has one thing in common: They’ve all turned on him at one point or another. And somehow, he’s still standing. MAGA isn’t dead. It’s just learned who not to listen to.

The Senate would walk over broken glass to pass FISA, which is why FISA is the perfect vehicle to attach the SAVE America Act and force a vote. No more excuses. No more delays. Attach it, pass it, and get voter ID done.

I haven’t made any public statements about this but will. I do want to say (publicly here), of all the things I’ve read, your comments are the most measured I’ve seen. Kent is a very serious person and not someone to disregard. I can only imagine how difficult his decision was because as a true professional, his decision was not taken lightly by him.

BANNON: Joe Kent is highly revered. 11 combat tours. Valor, courage, and dedication are beyond question. His beloved wife died in a Syrian operation, leaving him a widower with 2 young boys. His dedication to the country is unparalleled. The @VP should have taken Joe straight to the CoS and President so he could explain why he was resigning and why he drafted it. Coming from a guy like @joekent16jan19, this has to be investigated. We can’t kick this down the road. I’ve had many questions about the 12 day war and this so called imminent threat. What was it and why were those decisions made? We’re in it now. We have to win. It’s not a good sign when countries rely on the United States for both national and economic security, with the Navy protecting key trade and oil routes through the straits, the Red Sea, and up to the Suez Canal. These questions need answers. Now that Joe Kent has put this out, it’s not going away. This is going to be serious.

@SenFettermanPA you didn’t vote for the SAVE act? You are all talk. I thought you were reasonable. 84% issue. Did Pennsylvania ever get to the bottom of the driver who transported ballots from New York to PA in the 2020 election? But you say mail in ballots are safe. Lol
