The Senate committed a COUP against our Democracy and the Nigerian people yesterday. Let me again remind the Senators that it is not wise to play with fire. It simply is not wise. Transparency is always better. My fellow Citizens, let nobody deceive or confuse you. What all well-meaning Nigerians want passed by the National Assembly @nassnigeria - @SenateNGR and @HouseNGR as @inecnigeria Reform is a Bill which legally mandates electronic transmission of polling units results in real time and without any CONDITIONS attached. What we want is what the members of the House of Representatives have already passed with this simple and HONEST text: “Clause 60(3): “INEC shall electronically transmit election results from polling units to the INEC Result Viewing Portal in real time and such transmission shall be done simultaneously with the physical collation of results.” Period! No ifs, no buts, no whataboutism and no provisos. The proviso below that the Senate added to Clause60(3) : “If electronic transmission fails or becomes impossible to use, the signed Form EC8A shall be the primary source of election results” IS A GRAVE DANGER TO OUR DEMOCRACY. It will permanently damage the same Transparency that we as Citizens are demanding for in all our Election Results. Your vote and mine CAN NEVER COUNT with such deceptive and ill-intended proviso by the Senate. The Senators know what they are doing. They simply don’t want TRANSPARENCY. Transparency through electronic transmission of results in real time at each polling unit will END their opportunity to RIG our elections. Fellow Nigerians, know this for real, @SenateNGR is determined to hijack Nigeria’s Democracy and continue with their Bad Governance that is perpetuating Poverty among Nigerians and killings across our Land. We, the Citizens of Nigeria and not politicians are the REAL OWNERS of Democracy. We must collectively stand to defend our rights to TRANSPARENCY. Our Girls Guide motto when we were in Secondary School is: Be Prepared. ✍🏾✍🏾✍🏾

The U.S. Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate General in Lagos will be closed on Monday, February 16, 2026, in observance of Presidents’ Day. Originally established to honor George Washington’s birthday, Presidents’ Day now celebrates all U.S. presidents and their leadership in shaping the nation’s history and positively influencing the world. #DYK? George Washington created the first “Badge of Military Merit,” which later became the Purple Heart, and the medal still bears his image today.

When I did my housemanship at Federal Medical Centre Owerri, we had a medical director called Dr Angela Uwakwem. Prior to our time, people were paying hundreds of thousands to get housemanship positions in that hospital, but Dr Uwakwem conducted our interview herself and nobody got that job because they paid anyone. By the time our internship started, everyone in the hospital was talking about Angela Uwakwem. People were always on their toes because if you slack, your next salary was likely to slack as well. She would walk into any ward and pick up patient folders at random to see what the doctors were doing for the patient. Woe betide you if a nurse had written "Doctor informed" and as the doctor, you saw the patient 2 hours later. You will answer a lot of questions. She once entered a ward and noticed that a fan was not working. Patient said it had been like that since they were admitted. The matron in charge of that ward had issues for not reporting the fan issue to have it fixed. Waiting period at A&E was less than an hour and you had 24 to 48 hours to either discharge a patient or admit them to the ward. I met her a couple of times at A&E when she came to ask why we still had patients in there. Before Angela Uwakwem became the MD, doctors in ward coats would stand in front of FMC gate hustling to write medical reports for parents of students or graduates going for NYSC. She put an end to all that. She streamlined payment system for the hospital and stopped embezzlement that came from all angles. While she was doing all that, she was building lots of infrastructure for the hospital. Most new infrastructure in the hospital today were built or started by her because the hospital was making a lot of money then. And she sanitised the place and made it very neat. Unfortunately, there was serious campaign against this woman. Doctors did not like her because they felt she was leaning towards JOHESU. This same JOHESU was the union that started the Angela must go campaign. It was quite massive that the national body joined in the fight to get rid of her. They called her all sorts of names. I remember at that time when they gathered for their "prayer sessions" against her, if a goat passed by, they'll start chasing it saying Angela had sent it. Anybody that said anything good about her was branded "sabo". It got so bad that even if you were in a keke in Owerri, the topic would be how bad Angela was. Hospital was shut down for over 6 months until she was removed. After the woman left FMC, everything changed. We started seeing severe power outage. We were using phone light to suture episiotomy. Basic items like gloves and syringes became unavailable and we started sending patients out to buy medications from pharmacies. That's when we started seeing antibiotic brands like Obinnazole and Kenechukwucef. Hospital staff were buying and repackaging gloves to sell to patients. It's been over 10 years now and I hope things are better in the hospital. But thinking back on this just shows how difficult it is for things to get better in Nigeria. It takes a couple of people who are benefiting from a corrupt system to incite others to fight you when you're trying to effect changes. Our journey in that country is still too far Peter Obi is coming.
