@BGatesIsaPyscho What utter bollocks. Do you notice what happens when you breathe out on a cold day? You can see your breath. So, a jet engine's exhaust gas temperature (EGT) is around 850 degrees c, the temp. at cruise altitude is -50c. So all you're seeing is water vapour.

For England the net result of these trends is a noteworthy signal for cold weather with snow risks ~13th-16th Feb, with a possible but highly uncertain return of milder conditions afterward.
Quite a few runs have a brief milder spell followed by further cold weather.

Some interesting ECMWF ensemble trends for northern Europe lately.
Firstly, toward higher pressure to the north late next week, with low pressure tracking further south & a greater incursion of cold air across north-western Europe. A notable snow risk for the UK & Ireland.

Signal (again! 🥱) from the 00z EPS for it to turn much colder (and hopefully drier) from the northeast towards mid-month. And, dare I say it, with a chance of snow on Valentine's Day for some. Definite clustering towards colder air arriving in the ensemble spread. However, we've been here before at this range, only for the Atlantic lows to keep cold at bay, apart from the far north. So we'll see ...

Lol, lake-effect snowfall a possibility for western Florida this weekend, while many of us in the UK at a much more northerly latitude are hoping the model charts showing air cold enough for snow that have been stuck beyond day 10 the last few weeks actually get nearer in time!

This is pretty incredible. Not only are ocean-effect flurries possible in western Florida late Saturday into Sunday, but it could snow over the ocean nearly to the Bahamas! On the backside of this weekend's potent storm, air from the Arctic will swirl across the Gulf on Saturday night, stretching down the Floridian Peninsula and causing wind chills to reach the 20s, teens and single digits in the state. As that freezing air glides over much warmer ocean waters, enough atmospheric instability may be sparked to cause Gulf-effect snow in a stretch from Apalachicola to Tampa — in a similar way that lake-effect snow forms near the Great Lakes. If a few flakes fly across this zone, it would be rare, but not unprecedented. Early Sunday, the air may be cold enough for snow to fall over the ocean about 100 miles north of the Bahamas. Believe it or not, it has snowed there before: Flurries were reported in Freeport in January 1977.

Both ECMWF & GFS continue to signal a Sudden Stratospheric Warming (SSW) in early February, with a split of the polar vortex into 2 vortices. A split much more likely than a displacement to push cold arctic air down into Europe, including the UK, but there's no guarantee, even if a SSW does occur. Roughly 2/3 such events can lead to cold and wintry weather a few to several weeks later. Will be watching to see if the models continue to show a SSW 👀
