@StevenHallDOP Yes. Anybody can turn on a digital camera, shoot anything and come up with a decent image. Sensors are very forgiving, malleable. Obviously skill and talent still improve. I am just saying what passes as baseline competence is easy to accomplish in digital versus film.

You know why CGI in movies looks bad even though they spend hundreds of millions with infinitely better tech? After 15 years of digital cinematography that takes no skill to shoot, we have a new generation of filmmakers and artists that think flat lighting is the new normal.

@JosephKahn Interesting. Embarrassingly I've worked with digital cameras for many years now & I still don't know how some of them turn on? I certainly don't know what plugs into where. But those tasks are someone else's job.

@sharrond62 Completely agree. As a voting member of the British Academy I think it should also be a significant factor here too.

Oscar’s should be about how popular & successful a film is, something that the general public wants to pay to see…. Not how many boxes it ticks. Thoughts?

@spyderdobro I agree with the sentiment of what you're saying here, but will sprinkle it with a bit of reality. It's incredibly tough to get into the movie business now, by that I mean making a living from the mainstream industry. It's always been hard to get in, now it's really hard.

It is never too late to write a script. It is never too late to direct your first film. It is never too late to attempt to be apart of the movie business. It is not harder now. It was always hard. There wasn't a simple formula then, there still isn't. Create your stories.

@jackabbott90 You do know the £1.5m you've secured is roughly 15% of what your Government is spending every day on people arriving in the UK illegally? £8.5m is being spent every single day feeding, housing & caring for people arriving here illegally. £8.5m Every. Single. Day.

I was delighted to secure £1.5 million from our Government for Pride in Place funding for Ipswich. I'm pleased we're moving quickly to get this money out into our communities, and 30 projects across our town have been recommended for approval. They'll make a real difference.

I am a Falklands vet. I always said thank goodness the US forces were not with us. The ship has to be on the ball and approach slowly.

Enroute they were exercising and undertaking work up. @NavyLookout produced an excellent article about why (navylookout.com/hms-dragon-wor…) At present, though, our posture is defensive only and is being executed well by other UK assets.

Pilot said at the time it's the nearest he ever got to a ship without landing on her (she's doing 26kts & we're flying backwards & sideways ahead of her).

They have to test everything is working and work the crew up, they’ve probably had FOST people onboard and the call at Gib will be to top everything off and drop them ashore.
