Disappointed to hear Keith Brown on GMS citing the Council Tax freeze as a positive policy initiative for hard up families. It's nothing of the kind, it's a cumulative disaster for Local Government services, paid for by the poorest in our society.

7) With inflation, councils are £850M short compared with last year- equivalent to requiring a council tax increase of 31% just to stand still in real terms.

6) The effect of inflation alone is around 5%, so a 1% increase cannot enable councils to address our shared priorities agreed with the SG viz. tackling child poverty, achieving a just transition to net zero, and maintaining sustainable public services.

Let me have a go at fact checking this:
1) The only way it can be interpreted as a 6% increase is to ignore the funding given in year for pay and SG priorities, and which we were assured was actually baselined into this year’s settlement.
