Next time someone calls you a conspiracy theorist for saying the government lies to us, tell them about Operation Northwoods. ​Back in 1962 the joint chiefs of staff (literally the top military minds in the pentagon) unanimously signed off on a plan to commit actual acts of terrorism on american soil just to trick the public into supporting a war. They wanted to invade Cuba so badly that they drafted a blueprint to blow up a U.S. military ship, stage violent riots in american cities, hijack civilian aircraft, and even blow up an unmanned drone plane disguised as a passenger flight. The plan was to blame every single bit of the wreckage and chaos on Fidel Castro so they could start a war with a clean conscience. ​The only reason this didn't end up in the history textbooks as a real tragedy is because president John F. Kennedy flat-out rejected it. The paperwork was buried and kept completely secret for decades until it was finally declassified in the late 90s. It's a reminder of how far the elites in power are willing to go behind closed doors, and it proves that so called "conspiracies" are often true.

I’m devastated and furious at the senseless acts of gun violence that took place in Toronto last night. Salsa on St Clair is a beloved community event, one that my family and I have enjoyed for many years. I know residents and festival attendees are scared and still processing this reckless act at a crowded festival that brings thousands of people together. My thoughts are with the families and victims, the first responders, the festival organizers and the community who worked tirelessly to organize this event. We need to get illegal guns out of our streets and neighbourhoods. Nobody should have to worry that their loved ones will fall victim to reckless violence on our streets.
