I think there is an organizational issue with this obsession of playing “the Flyer way” and I think it’s holding us back. Don’t get me wrong, it’s good to have those kinds of players, but you can’t win in the NHL without top end skill. I think Michkov is falling victim to this

We are about to live through Cutter Gauthier part II. Martone will be the new version of what Michkov used to represent. They will tell us it didn't work but we have a new centerpiece, just like last time. Imagine all 3 here with a slightly competent FO

You will certainly here insiders like @FriedgeHNIC mention that teams are wondering about Michkov in Philly and his fit. I can see a world he's moved as it probably benefits both sides. Fortunately for them they drafted Martone; still feels like a wasted asset w/ huge upside 2/2

I seriously believe the Flyers have painted themselves into a corner this season. The coverage, both local and national, around Michkov has been brutal. They've done little to dispel it and now they hitched their wagon to a coach that doesn't utilize the player to his ability 1/2

Michkov has been crazy misused by Philly. This player needs minutes, and to subsequently grow as a player. Tocchet all season has thought that the answer is to play him less, while the answer is to play him more. Give him minutes or trade him, this is pointless. #LetsGoFlyers

Besides getting Michkov here early, the Flyers have handled Michkov in house and out very poorly. I don't know what he's going to be, but his potential upside is high and the second he starts struggling their first move is to scratch him? Put him in a position to succeed.

I'm not telling the Flyers they have to like Michkov! The opposite. I'm saying they should stop being on the fence. You love him so much you won't trade him for a generational defenseman one minute, hate him so much he can't see ice in the playoffs the next? That's absurd.

Totally agreed. Separately, I'm not gonna act like Michkov will ever work his way out of this doghouse. So keeping him prevents future winning.

Thing is, it didn't eventually happen. He got 2 minutes in the first period of game 1 lol. The MINUTE the playoffs started, we did this. It was a decision made prior. We can justify that decision with data that happened since, but the decision was made before puck drop.

@SuitableAlias I think Tocchet was very proud of all of the work Matvei did in those D areas. He stated as much. I cant stop thinking about that cryptic quote Tocchet got hammered for when MM moved back to RW. Kinda sounds like Tocc feared that this would eventually happen.

You don't get it. It doesn't matter how much he improves or at what. Tocchet will never trust him. It's that simple. He's proven it over and over again. He got them into the playoffs as their leading scorer in a third line role and it got him demoted come playoffs.

@SuitableAlias As fair of a point as this is I’m still mad 😂 watching people rag on a kid playing 4th line minutes on a checking line when he’s not remotely close to that type of player is the worst and I hope game 5 shows that he’s not the issue (I also hope they win of course)
