@timstillman_ As in the part where VAR reviews incidents scrap all of that? But assume you would keep goaline tech, auto offside?

Quite simply, there is no good way of using it in football. Every suggestion you can think of has a host of unintended consequences. Various levels of implementation have been tried and all of them make people angry and unhappy. I will get a host of replies to this with a load of suggestions, a load of people saying 'oh it's not the technology it's the people' (totally irrelevant, the complaint is not the efficacy of the technology but its consequences on the game and you're just surfacing an unsolvable problem anyway). Abolish.

Premier League fans deliver damning verdict on VAR. 75% of 7,946 fans polled by the Football Supporters’ Association “didn’t support the use of VAR”. Too long, too forensic, too much of a joy killer, fans say. Findings shared with Premier League and PGMO. 92% of fans surveyed “agreed” that “VAR has removed the spontaneous joy of goal celebrations” (82% of them “strongly agreed”). 85% of match-going fans “strongly disagreed” with the notion that “VAR makes watching football more enjoyable”. And 83% of those watching on TV. 85% of match-going fans “strongly disagreed” that “VAR decisions are generally resolved in a reasonable amount of time”. Echoed by 83% of those watching on TV. Only 18% agreed that “VAR has improved the overall accuracy of refereeing decisions”. 72% are “concerned about the expansion of VAR beyond its current remit”. 79% “strongly disagreed” with the suggestion “that the match-going experience is better with VAR”. 67% “strongly agreed” that they preferred “watching games that are played without VAR to games with VAR”. 84% “strongly support” goal-line technology. 34% “strongly opposed” to the idea of a challenge system (two per game per team). “These findings back up the FSA's previous survey in 2021, where fans expressed misgivings about the introduction of VAR,” says Thomas Concannon, @WeAreTheFSAPremier League network manager. “The vast majority are reporting the same concerns five years on - the loss of spontaneity when celebrating goals, and an overall worsening of the match-going experience. We have shared the survey results with the Premier League and PGMO, and look forward to discussing its findings with them.” Fans surveyed of all PL clubs and all ages (Under-18 to 65+).

Still feeling a bit rough but surgery went well - thanks to all of you asking! Was slightly more complicated than initially planned (and still don't have a voice) but I've already started my scouting for the summer. Direct line to Berta sorted. 🔎🤝

Finally having surgery today. Been fighting a niggle and decided to sort it during the international break - unfortunately Dr Tottenham couldn’t sort me out. Hoping to be match fit for some celebrations in May! 🎈

@LewisBowden_ “Can’t see us selling to a Prem team” such a fallacy for toon fans 😂

Interesting one this, no Italian team would afford his fee, can’t see us selling to a Prem team - I’m not against the sale tho. Obviously ideally you’d keep him but with 4 year contract and a bit of an up and down season, could be clever business to sell and reinvest across the squad.

EXCL: Sandro Tonali expects to leave NUFC this summer - 'agreement' with club he can exit, if Magpies miss out on Europe ❌ 🤝 The 'gentleman's agreement' that could define Newcastle United's summer transfer policy. shieldsgazette.com/sport/football…

The Rodri answers about Madrid felt inevitable to me. He’s done a couple of post-match interviews with Spanish reporters in the last fortnight, which is quite rare, and it felt to me - and I may be wrong - that he was ready to drop some kind of hint about his future. International breaks are usually good for that. I feel City’s squad doesn’t need much work this summer as it’s very strong, but if Rodri and Bernardo go then it’s a bigger job. Rodri does say he’s happy in the PL for now so it may be that he does the last year of his deal, or even stays, but it’s interesting that he’s still open to the idea of playing for Madrid (he always has been) after the Balon d’Or stuff.

Just to confirm so that people who aren’t clued up on Cantona’s time at Utd don’t get fooled by this stuff; In 97 you needed 69 points to win the title. Cantona scored 11 goals this season He made the PFA TOTY once in 7 seasonsc during the WORST era in Premier League history

Are you dumb? Cantona won the league with Leeds then came to United won it every season he was at United apart from the one he was suspended during. Goal catalogue ridiculous, leader of men and basically decided where the league would be.
