A PSA: @GA_InsuranceUK who are part of @AvivaUK have left my wife's car wreck for a week now, with no courtesy car, no one out to assess the damage and no one answering calls. Appalling service. Avoid if you can. Aviva should be ashamed to be associated with this lot.

@olicav I was a Motzartian. I am now a Beethovian. The delays as a Motzartian often weren't productive. Rather, I simply avoided writing. Now, I give my creative mind the space to work freely. Then, I permit my critical self to go in and edit. The latter is far less stressful for me.

Are you Beethovian or Mozartian in your writing? In Professional Writing Experts (in Camb. H'Book of Expertise & Ex Performance), Kellog explains that B writers "engage in few pre-writing activities & prefer to compose rough first drafts immediately" M's, the opposite.

I'm teaching about the common sense rejection of scepticism this week. Enjoying creating the presentation, as always (example slide below). Much of the philosophy we've looked at has been quite abstract. Does philosophy need to be practical to be valuable? What do you think?

Anticipated offspring of @WALKTHRUs_5, Learning WalkThrus — for both students & parents — is out in March 2024. In the same style as its parent, it contains 70+ visual guides to key aspects of studying at home & at school. Just look at the guest authors & their WalkThru topics!

I had the privilege of talking to students at the outstanding @loretocollege about the virtues of studying philosophy today, as part of our Philosophy department outreach at @ManMetUni 🎓 Here's wishing them all the best with their uni applications! ✍️

@TheSumoGuy 1 is much more readable, though the clash with the paragraph underneath and some character spacing would need to be fixed.

I have to make a choice between these two book covers. What do you reckon… 1 or 2 ? Thanks.

I just added my short paper on Death and Becoming in Deleuze to my blog over at deathandhappiness.co.uk This was a fun one to write and deliver. My mention of Blanchot raised a few eyebrows...the subject of my next piece of writing, methinks!

@missdcox Interesting thread and some great points. I can understand the reluctance to use PPT. Slides are often poor when it comes to enhancing teaching, acting as notecards for the teacher instead. There lies the rub: slides should amplify education, not simply support the educator.

A 🧵in defence of using (Powerpoint) slides in lessons. Keep seeing anti-PP posts but unsure of reasons why they're so bad. I suspect it's a case of badly used slides are bad. So here's a thread to defend them, especially in RE.....

@philosophyinks2 My hope would be that there are superbly funded and well resourced initiatives to offer recovery well before this measure is taken. Otherwise, given the widespread availability of drugs in Canada, this could lead to countless avoidable suicides.

Reading History and Becoming by Craig Lundy on the way to work today. Focussing on nomadology as I continue to work on my paper for next week's Deleuze workshop at @UniofNewcastle

I'm excited to begin teaching a variety of modules based largely on the philosophy of religion, all through the coming year for philosophy at @ManMetUni As always, I also enjoy the opportunity to explore dual coding theory through presentation and resource design, of course!

Working on producing some "grab and go" guides for teachers on some common issues. Each one comes with tips and tactics that can work well. Done behaviour, questioning, retrieval practice and feedback. Any other suggestions for these guides?

@StevoEdu @DrJSellars I've been thinking about technology recently: how to apply ideas in books into life. Getting to a more practical, phenomenological dimension. Contrary to current twitter thinking, knowing stuff doesn't change much, if the person stays the same.

My birthday treat to myself. Lessons in Stoicism by John Sellers. I've had the pleasure of meeting @DrJSellars on a few occasions. He is a gentleman and an exceptional scholar. Inspiration, too, for my own writing style as I prepare to go headlong into an academic career.
