A wonderful first day at the Alfred Wegener Institute in Bremerhaven, Germany. Seeing how polar aquaculture can be accomplished and meeting such a large group of polar marine biologists is amazing. Thanks to Felix Mark for hosting me. #WhereInTheWorldIsKUBiology

Professor Andrew Forbes (@Lord_Forbington), PhD, has been awarded an NSF grant titled, “How do gall-forming insects escape diverse and evolving clades of parasitic wasps - and how do parasites catch up?”! 🎉 The grant is for 4 years in the amount of $898,359.

As a reminder I'm searching for a PhD student interesting in working on our NSF-funded project on minnow evolution and diversification. I made a post to EvolDir:

Finally made a lab website. Only been putting that off for 4 years. Excited for the things to come and to start working with a pretty cool group of people.

Happy to release Stacks v2.67 today. This release updates process_radtags to make it easier to use SRA data and to filter poly-G (error) runs coming from Nextseq/Novaseq machines + bugfixes. We also added a genotype depth filter to populations #RADseq

Multiple sessions on #mitochondria at the #SEBConference. Definitely enjoying cosplaying as a “real” physiologist. #datascience #genomics

First time attending #SEBConference.
It has been a minute since I attended a large meeting. Will I learn my lesson from #Evolution and just pick a session and stay put or hop around like a maniac for 8 hours?

@pastramimachine still obsessively checking for scores. Thought maybe delayed because of the holiday?

Looking for a postdoc? Check out this great position from @jsharbro. Friend and collaborator for almost 15 years. I could not more highly recommend learning from him. Also, this snowflower project is SO COOL. #postdocjob #postdoctoral #genomics

@rony_speaks What tab would you suggest? I was thinking of EcoEvo but this is not a postdoc or faculty position.

Where do you post job announcements?
SACNAS, GSA, and others all assume I have $500 to spend for a few weeks on their job boards.
I want to reach applicants but so far have not found many viable options. #help

@Choi_JaeY Thank you very much! I am working on Evoldir now and did not know about jobrxiv. I will post there as well.
English

@Stickle_Beck Our HR can post it on multiple job boards across the state, Midwest, and across the US as well. Evoldir is another place to post. There's also jobrxiv

@jdpereira Ran out of characters but good luck! I hope you find someone. So many good scientists out there!

@jdpereira I'm transitioning from NTTF back to TTF and I can say the biggest struggle as an NTTF was being soft-money funded and having constant uncertainty. You clarified in your later tweets about this being a permanent position, but maybe lost people from not having it in the original?

The Beck Lab is hiring an assistant researcher/lab manager or two @KUbiology. Position starts this August in Lawrence KS. We are a 50/50 wet/dry lab and are looking for people with a wide range of skills. Must love mitochondria. Helpful if you love fish. employment.ku.edu/staff/28121BR
