@TomKloza thank you Tom. What do you think about the gross profit per gallon the gas retailers earn? Is gross profit per gallon poised to return to pre-pandemic levels or can it remain elevated?

@StirlingLevy Just as we are all day-to-day in life, I think most oil price moves in the next 15 months will be temporary. So I don't think diesel can spend multiple quarters at $50-$60/bbl margins vs. crude but here we are.

Gasoline retailers had big innings for fuel profit in the summer but they are getting shut out this autumn. OPIS counts 11 states today where the cost of gasoline is higher than the sales price: AZ, TX, MO, AR, LA, MS, AL, NC, VA, WV, and MD.

@AlexBerenson Michigan registered voters who live out of state?

A reader emailed this question and I’m sure it has a good answer but I can’t figure it out, so I’m throwing it to the hive mind. The Michigan Secretary of State Website reports 8.127 million registered voters, but Michigan has only 7.822 million people 18 and over. Explanations?
