Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi: Iran has not responded to any of the 15 U.S. proposals and has not submitted any proposals or conditions of its own.

If you think the Saudis will sit idly by and let Iran set up a toll booth, you do not understand oil or geopolitics one bit. The power dynamics of OPEC and OPEC+ (later on) can teach you a lot about what may unfold in the future. For starters, OPEC was always centered around the power and flexibility of Saudi production. Saudi says jump, everyone jumps. If you don't jump, they destroy you with price cuts and production increases. You don't have to be a scholar to understand this dynamic, just look at past episodes: 1986, 1998, 2009, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2020, 2022, etc. If Iran controls the Strait of Hormuz via a toll mechanism, it will have an effective say in future production. This is 1,000x more powerful than the dynamic Saudis had over OPEC+. There's a 0% chance this happens. There's a higher chance I can travel at the speed of light before the Saudis agree to anything like this.

⭕️No matter how you slice it, something doesn't add up—especially given that Kharg Island was targeted early in the conflict. ⭕️Even if the entire island were turned into molten lava from volcanic-level destruction, the actual hit to Iran's oil export capacity would be s limited . Anyone claiming that bombing or seizing Kharg would cripple the regime's ability to keep oil flowing clearly doesn't understand Iran's oil infrastructure.

What just happened to Iran's Kharg Island? President Trump just said the US has carried out the "most powerful bombing raids in Middle East history" on Kharg island. This is a MAJOR escalation for oil markets. Here's why: Kharg Island has been described as the "crown jewel" of Iran's oil industry. It is a vital, tiny island in the northern Persian Gulf that manages ~90% of Iran's crude oil exports. Kharg Island alone handles ~2% of global oil supply. In the lead up to the war, Iran was exporting as much as 3 MILLION barrels of oil per day from Kharg Island. Trump said that the US military has "chosen NOT to wipe out the Oil Infrastructure on the Island" for now. However, President Trump also said he will reconsider this decision should Iran "do anything to interfere with the free and safe passage of Ships through the Strait of Hormuz," which Iran is clearly doing right now. In other words, President Trump appears to be paving the path for the destruction of oil infrastructure on one of the world's most crucial oil ports and islands. It's no coincidence this came just 2 hours after markets closed for the weekend. Buckle up for a busy weekend ahead.
