Our house Network Day panel discussion Creating meaningful connections digitally, has been fascinating. Digital content can ‘give audiences ownership of their choices’ to access work and ‘connect audiences who may feel disconnected from traditional venues’.

Making events accessible for deaf people isn’t just about performing interpretations. Improving accessibility requires venues and promoters to make decisions sooner, work together and provide clear information. This helps deaf audiences know if an event has BSL access without waiting or guessing. At @PerformInterp, we are working hard to support the industry in making events open and welcoming for everyone. Hannah Sampson (she/they) is a Senior Dance Artist with @Stopgapdance, an inspiring performer and dance teacher with Downs Syndrome, aiming to be a powerful advocate for change and inclusion.

This is such important research and something that’d largely go unreported if it wasn’t for disabled media, such as Access All. It’s a double stigma: non-disabled authorities think it’s entirely normal to treat disabled people this way - and many non-disabled journalists do too.
