Adesanya vs Pfyer fight week, thought it was an odd fight to make when it got announced but Adesanya is willing to fight down the rankings, gotta respect him for that He’s on a bad skid, no two ways about it. Strickland completely outclassed him, DDP probably his best performance in the last 3 but still a sub loss, then Imavov found a big right hand to take him out. He’s a shadow of his former self, his distance management is off, boxing doesn’t look anywhere near as good or efficient anymore, he never particularly does damage to anyone. It makes me question whether he has enough in him to beat a young guy like Pyfer. I rate Pyfer, he’s done well to bounce back from the loss to Hermansson in his first main event, almost finished Gastelum a couple of times in their fight and was able to drop and submit Abus. I don’t think he necessarily needs to grapple with Adesanya, unless he’s following him to the ground after a knockdown. He looked to take down Abus very quickly which makes me think he might do the same here, but I don’t think he needs to worry about being caught with anything sudden by Adesanya, his distance management on the feet is good, he’s better than him in the pocket and I’m honestly starting to question Adesanya’s chin. While his right hand is obviously insanely powerful, he can also drop people with his left like he did on DWCS. Pyfer has a decent kicking game but he tends to abandon it in favour of just picking shots with his hands. Once Adesanya knows you can hurt him, he looks so lost. If Pyfer can give Izzy a sense of his power early, land a punch that knocks him off balance, Izzy could so easily start to let the fight get away from him. Izzy’s chance here is to do his usual, throw leg and body kicks early, stay out of pocket range and hope that Pyfer starts to fade and throw less and less. As I’ve said, Pyfer is smart on the feet with power mixed in, I can see him catching Izzy with a shot similar to the one he caught Abus with, applies a bit of pressure, Izzy tries to mover laterally to get away from the fence and he unleashes a big right to put down Adesanya, a shot which tends to trouble Izzy quite a lot. Like DDP, if Pyfer drops you his submission game is more than good enough to pounce on a hurt opponent on the ground and make them tap. Joe Pyfer by submission after dropping Adesanya, round 2 🔒
