With details of the MOU (aka. The Grand Ransom) between Alberta and the Federal Government seemingly imminent, I would like to offer the following: 🛢️a 1MM Bbl/d pipeline to the West Coast is a "pipe dream" if not funded by taxpayers, and the likelihood of getting firm volume commitments for that scale is highly unlikely 🛢️Pathways, a ~$30BN project, was conceived in a different world than now and should be scrapped immediately 🛢️Carbon taxes make the industry at the margin less competitive and encourages investment elsewhere - the oilsands are 0.1% of global emissions - we are irrelevant 🛢️The industry does not need to be "future proofed" nor need a "social license" - the world is desperate for more energy and not a single purchaser of oil in the world asks nor cares about a barrel's carbon profile 🛢️With expansion on existing pipelines plus the Prairie Connector/Bridger project (which I'm now incrementally more confident will proceed) Canada will add ~1.6MM Bbl/d of incremental capacity, enough to get us through to the mid 2030's

@KirkLubimov According to traders I talk to, decarbonized supply isn’t on the radar screen. MC’s claim seems made up.

Mark Carney doubles down on decarbonizing oil and claims that's what Asia is looking for. "One of the key selling points for Canadian conventional energy will be that it's low carbon. And so getting the emissions down will put us in a position - and I will tell you that from direct conversations with a series of governments across Asia; that’s what they’re looking for the medium term. That’s what the Government of Canada is working with the Government of Alberta in order to produce: a comprehensive approach through our MOU. We're making good progress on that, and that’s going to make the Oil Sands more competitive." Literally, no one has been asking that in Asia, out of all places, where 50% of energy production comes from coal and accounts for 80% of the world's coal consumption. Our oil production is already cleaner than the average by the government's own data. They just want our oil!

@CWalcottYYC @cmcalgary Having witnessed your total disregard for constituents in Ward 8, Ward 13 would be wise to give you a hard pass. Your approach only appears to serve your special interest groups and not the Ward. JUST SAY NO TO WALCOTT!!!

My heart is full with all of the kind, supportive, emotionally regulated responses! Ward 13 Twitter is a warm and welcoming community! Truly representative of the culture my friend Dan has cultivated and I look forward to him cultivating that culture at the provincial level ❤️❤️
Courtney Walcott@CWalcottYYC

It is my pleasure to announce I will be running for the ward 13 seat upon McLean’s vacancy. Councillor McLean and I share such deep values and brotherhood, and it is only right that I continue his good work.

@CWalcottYYC I think you are a poster child for refusing to listen to your constituents. I am just surprised that anyone is giving you any air time at all.

At Christmas I did a 2-bone rib roast from a high end butcher - $168 paired with expensive wine. Tonight its a 1-bone from Costco - $31 paired with a non-vintage GSM from a top CdP producer (this is his low end "Schlock") - $30. Same meal, 1/3 the price.

@Martyupnorth Sad development! I spent all last summer paddling my inflatable Kayak and explored the wonders these beautiful lakes. The majesty of being on the water surrounded by spectacular mountains was truly a religious experience. 😢

One more fun thing they're taking away from us. No more self-propelled water sports on Moraine Lake, Bow Lake and Lake Minnewanka. Other backcountry lakes and rivers will face similar restrictions. Restrictions come after Parks Canada confirmed whirling disease in Lake Louise for the first time. WTF? Too many east Indians crapping and bathing in our lakes?? But get this. Motorboats that pass inspection, along with rental boats, will still be permitted on Lake Minnewanka. So boats that generate cash for the parks are OK, but not the ones we bring.

@CWalcottYYC @AndrewKnack Once again Wal”nut” misses the point and twists the impact of over densification into a lesson on Journalism. Very strange!

Imagine being a professional writer and you write - without irony - that building homes is equivalent to war. This comparison wouldn’t pass in an elementary school essay, but today it passes for journalism. Sorry @AndrewKnack you have to deal with this foolishness.
David Staples@DavidStaplesYEG

City council and @AndrewKnack declaring war on our established Edmonton neighborhoods. Two applications in my area to turn family homes into 21-unit lodging mega-plexes. Imagine that going up next to you. Never have I seen worse, more contemptuous and radical city policy.

@CWalcottYYC Nice part of no longer having a Wal”nut” on YYCCC is nobody has to accept his wacko ideas of what is “best” for Calgary and communities.

Yeah. Non-Profit leaders, social workers, home builders, the homeless sector, affordable housing providers. So secretive. How dare these people make recommendations without checking in with you. So rude.
Lisa@llpoole

Calling a closed-door task force "made-in Calgary" doesnt make it community-driven. Authentic engagement requires involving ordinary Calgarians, not just the so-called experts who already agree with administration. Calgarians want planning done WITH communities not TO them. #yyccc

I’m not going to give up on Repealing Blanket Rezoning! I feel like I was Lied to and it’s right here in the video. When asked if Fed Money is tied to Blanket the answer was NO. We don’t need blanket rezoning to build the homes that Calgarians need and want.

@CorneliaWiebe @DanWMcLean Also, did anyone else notice the irony of Wal”nut” using the analogy of car purchases when most of his time spent on YYCCC was advocating on not owning a car and riding transit? Funny/odd

@CorneliaWiebe @DanWMcLean Courtney is just looking for consulting gigs. He is pontification to remind “suckers” that he still exists. He rammed through the Blanket Rezoning and is now hoping the debate rages on because someone will pay him for his opinion.

Walcott says Blanket Rezoning is good and compares it to the Auto Sector? Is it good if someone buys a Big, Ugly, Noisy Car that pisses everyone off in the community? Opinion: Backward beliefs about housing shaping the debate on rezoning | Calgary Herald calgaryherald.com/opinion/column…

@nate_for_8 It appears your previous affiliations are catching up with your current role. Please let us know why you oppose repealing Blanket Rezoning. You got 30% of the vote and the remaining 70% want to understand your rationale.

Believe it or not, blanket rezoning is back at city hall. As we continue the discussion around how to best move forward as a city, one thing we all have to remember: Calgary is growing and we all need a safe, affordable, and vibrant place to live. #yyc #yyccc

Given that Evan Woolley : A) was a terrible councillor for Ward 8 who was bought and paid for by inner city developers, and B) he also hand-picked and endorsed the current outgoing councillor Walcott This is a terrible endorsement of what you would be for Ward 8 on #yyccc.
Nathaniel Schmidt - Ward 8 City Councillor@nate_for_8

Grateful to receive the endorsement of 2-term Ward 8 Councillor Evan Woolley , a strong voice for Ward 8 and brought positive change to our City. If you want a councillor who will speak up for Ward 8 and fight FOR change and not AGAINST everything, vote Nate for 8! #yyc #yyccc
