Remembering Constable Travis Jordan and Constable Brett Ryan who were killed in the line of duty on March 16, 2023, while responding to a family dispute. Cst. Jordan served with EPS for 8 years. Cst. Ryan served for 5 years. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten. Heroes in life, not death.

Meeting with the Mikes (Michaels) As we pass the 4 month point since the election, I wanted to have some one-on-ones with each member of Council to stay connected with them, learn more about the issues they are hearing about from residents, and receive any feedback they have for me. Today was the meeting of the Mikes. I started with @AFPAElliott at Hart’s Table where we talked about his first 4 months on Council and everything he has been learning and enjoying. I’ve really enjoyed working with Mike and appreciate his ongoing desire to serve Edmontonians. Next up was a meeting with @michaeljanz at Mood Cafe where I got a pecan pie to celebrate pi(e) day. We discussed how we can continue to support housing and transportation choices as our city continues to grow. I always appreciate the chance to chat with my colleagues one-on-one and will keep doing that throughout the term. We all serve Edmontonians and by regularly connecting with each other, we can all better support this incredible city.

Snow and Ice Clearing Update ⚠️ Clearing crews are managing the recent flurries by applying traction material to roadways. Crews continue smoothing and maintaining a level snowpack on residential roads. Stay safe, give clearing crews adequate room to work and always drive to the current road conditions. Contact 311 to report any problem areas. For more information, visit edmonton.ca/SafeTravels

Earlier today, I announced the launch of The Downtown Action Plan Fund. This resource aims to empower businesses and organizations to collaborate with the City of Edmonton as we work to create a more vibrant, inclusive, safe, and sustainable economy in our downtown core. We understand that downtown is the heart of our city, and its economic health impacts all of Edmonton. To support this, the City is allocating $3 million to community-led projects focused on vibrancy, with a renewed emphasis on long-term and strategic investments. I’m deeply proud of the growth our downtown core has experienced, and I’m confident that even greater progress will continue. If you’re a business owner or organization with projects aligned with one of the three funding streams—programs and activations, recreational amenities, placemaking, and beautification—please apply for funding. Yesterday marked four years since the start of the Russia-Ukraine war. Over these four long years, many Ukrainians have lost their lives, and even more have been displaced from their homes since Russia’s unprovoked invasion. The City of Edmonton stands with Ukraine. We will continue to welcome refugees and newcomers and the keep the legacy of being a home to a vibrant Ukrainian community. Though we wish the circumstances were different, we’re honoured to be learning from and supporting our Ukrainians neighbours. I commend our partners at the Edmonton branches of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress and the Ukrainian National Youth Federation for organizing yesterday's vigil and supporting community members during this difficult time.

Public safety is a key priority for Edmonton. That’s why my conversation with the Honourable Eleanor Olszewski, MP for Edmonton Centre, and the Honourable Gary Anandasangaree, Canada’s Minister of Public Safety, focused on ways to reduce crime and safety concerns in the City of Edmonton. In our conversation, Minister Olszewski and I discussed opportunities for the Government of Canada to partner with us to improve public safety and vibrancy in our city. More specifically, we spoke about the need to expedite bail reform legislation and the need for integrated release plans and programs to reduce recidivism. Given Edmonton’s high concentration of correction facilities, support for these programs is vital to help us improve public safety. Reducing crime and finding long term solutions requires collaboration. We are grateful to have Minister Anandasangaree and the federal government as willing partners, ready to help us implement proactive and sustainable solutions to keep our communities safe. I look forward to working alongside Minister Olszewski and Minister Anandasangaree to help build a safer and more vibrant Edmonton.

Following today’s snowfall, crews are adding traction material on main roads across Edmonton. They also continue smoothing and levelling residential roads to mitigate rutting and maintain a 5 cm snowpack. This work is expected to take 10 days to complete, unless we experience more snow. Congratulations to the Heritage Valley community on the opening of a new branch of the Edmonton Public Library🔖📚 Libraries support literacy and feed intellectual curiosity. They are also important spaces for community building and empowerment, helping Edmontonians build skills through workshops, events, and services. I am excited for what this new addition of EPL will mean for Heritage Valley and Edmonton at large. Special thank you to all the staff helping support libraries, especially dedicating their lives to make them safe spaces for people to grow and learn. Make sure you grab your library card and check out the new location.

@StevenDollansky @CityofEdmonton Thanks for tagging me. Shift change is at 7am so most crews would already be back at the district yard or almost there. The map also doesn’t include all the contractors that are supporting our City crews.

As the snowfall begins to taper, crews will continue to work their magic overnight. Our City plows, graders and active pathways crews are working with 100+ additional contracted equipment to help ensure our roads and pathways remain safe and accessible. Contracted support has been brought in early to clear main roads, collector roads, bus routes and business improvement areas as quickly as possible. Rest easy, Edmonton, we’ve got this. And if you’d rather look at plowing progress than count sheep, check out our live clearing status map at gis.edmonton.ca/snow
