@jfjoubert I have also found that when Afrikaners speak about "white South African" culture and more recently with the ongoing campaign in USA, they almost always infer this to be Afrikaner only and rather intentionally omit anyone with an English background as if we don't exist/invalid.

@balance_druid @jfjoubert So am I, but have Dutch and French, amongst others in my bloodline. In my family tree a "boere meisie* married a pure Scotsman. We all have Afrikaner blood in our bloodline. Trace your family tree, it's an eye opener. That said, I'm a South African too, but proud of my heritage.

@jfjoubert I am an English South African. A product of 1820 settlers. I am not an Afrikaner and find it insulting when we are lumped together as one (or "others" as 'other minorities'). We are not a "nation". Our legacy created the union of SA, thus we identify as South African.

My white friend who emigrated from South Africa about 5 years ago told me that when he was still there, sometimes people would just walk into an office building. If asked to leave, they wouldn't. They just wait. Eventually more people start showing up, until there is a whole bunch, then they move into the offices and start openly stealing computers, chairs, staplers, you name it. Carrying it away and leaving the businesses inside gutted. Cops do nothing because apparently this is some kind of social justice. Doesn't matter that the business was employing black Africans - or even if it was owned by black Africans. I didn't witness this. Was just told.
