@walkonsunlight my unpopular take is i don't know how she even won in 2010. i can't stand that awful fucking fake accent she puts on when she sings.

@mydarkmagic @crankygoddess "it's difficult to do" is entirely different from the "you can't because it's a swamp full of dead mafia victims" claim the woman in this video made, or even your claim there's "very little" paths. there's paths all the way up to where the stadium is in sight.

@StragMichelle @crankygoddess The key there is people who live in the area, no one can or should attempt to walk miles from a hotel to that stadium. It IS mostly highway with very little sidewalks and Jersey drivers are insanely aggressive. I live in New York and walk everywhere and would never attempt it.

usamericans act like no european has ever thought of the concept of ac before but the reason why we don't have any is because we DIDN'T NEED IT UNTIL LIKE 10 YEARS AGO. the hottest it ever got in summer was like 30ºC. the infrastructure just hasn't kept up with climate change

@mydarkmagic @crankygoddess people who lived in the area literally filmed themselves walking to it... there are paths nearly the entire way, you can see them on google maps street view clear as day. the only spot without a path is right outside the damn stadium

@merystudies the tweet isn't even aimed at you!!! it's aimed at english speakers talking to each other. and yes, if someone starts using terms they think make them look smarter at the detriment of having an actually engaging discussion with their peers, they're a performative twat

@s3tm3free_ to my understanding, she's extremely rich and thus able to fund the entire experience herself. she seems to just genuinely enjoy eurovision and performing. it's sort of like her hobby. it's like going to karaoke for a night out but in the most extreme way possible.

@pachipetals @SteBest82 it does if you know how to do it. i always see my neighbours open their windows fucking wide af first day of a heatwave. congrats, you just let all the heat in. you should only be opening your windows at the coldest time of the day, to let cool air in and then trap it.

What are uk houses built for exactly, bcoz its very clear they arent built for heatwaves and hot weather, but winter is also horrible. Like we can not win?? Are they built for rain only?? Lmk x

@tontalimica @TamTamTammy3 not only does that have literally nothing to do with anything, watamote has maybe the LEAST used localisation title i've ever seen so is entirely irrelevant. did everyone miss the words "widely used" in the og tweet???

@StragMichelle @TamTamTammy3 They're just abbreviating the name lol what's the problem?? "Watashi ga Motenai no wa Dou Kangaetemo Omaera ga Warui" It's simply abbreviated as watamote, is that wrong too?

I'm fully doubling down on this, Americans are so proud of only speaking one language. It's totally normal to call things by it's original name, and they often sound more pleasing. Kara no Kyoukai sounds better than Garden of Sinners. Utawarerumono sounds better than

one example of performative behavior i've noticed for years is where when a piece of japanese media has a very widely used localized name in english some fans of it will insist on using the japanese name anyway for some reason. very "place, japan" vibes

@underblade_s @TamTamTammy3 the closest comparison i can think of is over-pronouncing loan words even though they're fully localised and everyone says them in that localised way. it's not sharing knowledge, it's trying to make out you're better/smarter through your language choices

@StragMichelle @TamTamTammy3 It stills just a part of the full name, not a whole different phrase for the title, same as saying Re:Zero and not Re:Zero Kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu. And no, I don't see why calling something in his original name is performative.

@TamTamTammy3 he was in a couple, the ones i know best are macross plus and street fighter 2's anime. i don't think he's done any since malcolm in the middle. he's pretty decent in macross plus, he plays the main character isamu.

@TamTamTammy3 it depends. i do think dubs get a bad rap, as evidenced by how many dub actors went on to be world renowned stars (matt mercer, daran norris, even bryan cranston) and a lot of subs are also just dogshit quality with awful translations. you can get bad or good versions of both.

@mpregkuroha that's literally the point... neon genesis evangelion's japanese name is actually shinseiki evangelion. if anyone said that, not only would it confuse people, it'd come across as ridiculous/obnoxious. you should speak for your audience. not doing that is what's performative

2/3 of those don't really work because they do share most of their title in english LMAO
Shelly Belly@StragMichelle

@TamTamTammy3 What do you call ace attorney? What do you call sailor moon? What do you call neon genesis evangelion? All these have Japanese "original" titles people would only ever use to be performative. Noone would know what you were talking about, they'd just know you're a cunt.

@underblade_s @TamTamTammy3 are you seriously about to try to say that someone could drop that full title in a random english sentence while talking and you wouldn't think "what a performative twat"? if everyone you're talking to knows it as sailor moon, just say sailor moon. THAT IS THE OG TWEET'S POINT.

@TamTamTammy3 so if someone in the middle of a german sentence suddenly started dropping obscure romaji as some sorta gotcha instead of using these localised titles everyone in the conversation actually understands, what would they be? performative, thank you

@j_spathiphyllum @Im_SamB @merystudies Not only are most "localisations" literally on the original Japanese title cards, this isn't even about people saying known and accepted Japanese titles like kimetsu no yaiba. It's people using kanji romaji for shit like sailor moon, that even Japanese people often don't use

@StragMichelle @Im_SamB @merystudies >Seeing them as performative for doing it is also a harmless act lmao No, it's not. An original language has priority. Dismissing it, calling it 'performative' is death of the author and a recipe for weirdest EN localization quirks.

@Eledhena @merystudies Holy shit what an insane logic jump lmao. The tweet isn't quoting or referencing that, nor is it about the same thing even slightly. Maybe it got put on your feed because anime is trending but that's it. This is a tweet for and about anime in the English speaking world.

@StragMichelle @merystudies The OG tweet is an answer to recent twitter debate about americans mocking someone for not using "Tien Shinhan" when that is his name solely in the english dub. Everywhere else in the world he is Tenshinhan. You are the one not knowing what you're talking about in the end.
