I think the best bet is to go through Norton Critical Edition, annotated by Hershel Parker - he studied Melville and his era in detail, and gives a lot of insight.

@Chr1ty @DrMIXOficial Book critics at the time of release of Moby Dick didn't find homosexuality in it - male relationships were treated differently back then, especially between sailors - friendships were a lot more intimate back then. For contemporary critics it was mostly the racial difference.

@Dolfijnmanjohns I'd say realism is a flexible term - it may not be *historically accurate*, but as long as it's functional and fantastic elements don't compromise that quality it will be a solid design even if it doesn't look like any existing suit of armor.

This drawing blew up (50 likes is blowing up for me) so this is proof that I need to go crazier with my designs and not put too much emphasis on realism. I need to find the righteous balance. @Boomkin__ As sad as it is, but all things are made to pass eventually. This sadness will pass one day, too. It numbs and soothes with time - never truly going away, but it stops hurting. There will be longing and light sorrow - as if looking at old photos. Something to hold onto, brother.

@Dolfijnmanjohns Oooh, this looks quite nice - can never go wrong with gold and blued/blackened metal. I almost want to try modelling it in 3D - but I don't think I have enough sculpting skills for finer details. Regardless, a splendorous set indeed

The Trenchbroom + Godot workflow is honestly nice. Couple it with ericw-tools and make use of the colored lightmaps it provides, and you get accurate Quake / HL era looking maps.
