Self-care is increasingly being recognized as a strategic pathway to stronger, more resilient health systems across Africa. For the past 3 days at the 17th #NEAPACOH2026 meeting in Lusaka, Kenya contributed to the continental dialogue on advancing Universal Health Coverage in a rapidly evolving financing landscape. Representing @SelfCare4UHC (@MOH_Kenya–led national self-care network), our Executive Director @nellymunyasia participated alongside Prof. @joachimosur of @AmrefUniversity a key member of @SelfCare4UHC and keynote speaker at the meeting. In his keynote on “Advancing Resilient and Self-Reliant Health Systems for attainment of #UHC in Sub-Saharan Africa: Are African Countries on the right trajectory?” Prof. @joachimosur spotlighted Kenya’s self-care journey under the government-led @SelfCare4UHC, highlighting how coordinated, multi-sector efforts are embedding self-care into national systems within policy frameworks and implementation. Kenya’s experience demonstrated how integrating self-care within existing governance structures can expand service entry points, strengthen continuity of care and improve system resilience. The discussions also generated growing interest and commitment among African parliamentarians to support self-care through policy leadership and sustainable domestic financing for commodities and supplies. As countries navigate increasing pressure on health systems, self-care continues to emerge as a critical pillar of resilient, people-centered health systems. This is why Kenya continues to share its experience to contribute to regional learning and inspire collective action toward stronger, self-reliant health systems across Africa. #NEAPACOH2026

We joined the @GarissaGov in flagging off relief food and livestock feeds as part of the ongoing drought response efforts. @SaveChildren_KE has officially launched a Humanitarian Assistance Project in @GarissaGov, @WajirKE, and @Mandera_cgvt Counties, funded by the @FCDOGovUK. Through this initiative, we aim to support drought‑affected communities by: 💸Providing cash assistance to 5,700 households 👩‍⚕️Conducting screening and treatment of malnutrition across 120 outreach sites 🫘Procuring and distributing life‑saving nutrition commodities to health facilities reporting high malnutrition caseloads 👨‍🍼And other critical interventions to protect children and families during this crisis We commend the @GarissaGov for strengthening coordination of drought response efforts to avoid duplication and ensure that limited resources reach the families most in need. Effective collaboration remains key in saving lives. A heartfelt thank you to @FCDOGovUK for funding these life‑saving interventions at a time when drought conditions continue to worsen and more families require urgent support. Together, we are working to ensure children not only survive but thrive.

SCDO hosted three Aga khan Foundation staff at SCDO's office. The meeting focused on creating partnership between SCDO and Aga Khan who are interested in patnering with SCDO by involving their students in some of our activities to enable the students gains skills and knowledge.
