As part of Maths week we had another visit from @jonriddledevlin @StrathMathStat. S1 learned about network theory, working on some university level mathematics while some S2 &S4 pupils performed experiments showing how maths is used to model the way infectious diseases spread!

Earlier this year Hywel also published a paper about Antiferromagnets: magnets that appear non-magnetic 🧲 This paper uses numerical schemes to understand these important materials, which are likely the future of magnetic recording devices

Ever heard an annoying buzz from electrical wires? This is caused by the wire vibrating and is called magnetostriction. The following paper from PhD student Hywel Normington designs and analyses a numerical scheme for the dynamics of these materials.
