As part of Maths week we had another visit from @jonriddledevlin @StrathMathStat. S1 learned about network theory, working on some university level mathematics while some S2 &S4 pupils performed experiments showing how maths is used to model the way infectious diseases spread!

Ever heard an annoying buzz from electrical wires? This is caused by the wire vibrating and is called magnetostriction. The following paper from PhD student Hywel Normington designs and analyses a numerical scheme for the dynamics of these materials.

Professor David Greenhalgh was at the University of Birmingham last week attending the UK Mathematical Biology Conference 2025. David gave a fascinating talk about his work on using epidemic models in criminology!
