Even though they’re obviously trying to paint him as the bad guy, doesn’t it seem like Goliath embodies the traditional European notions of Courage and Honor better than David does in this scene? Goliath does not want to fight a child, an opponent far weaker than him, he even offers him a weapon and converses with him.
