what's the best low-cost model for use with @openclaw? want to do some testing around running an instance as inexpensively as possible. trying to fine the right balance between cost and functional.

i'm in a weird spot with openclaw. it's become so buggy that i basically can't rely on it to actually complete any tasks. but thanks to its memory, it's the best chat bot i've ever used by a long shot and arguably gives far better responses than anything else i could use.

Finally reaching limits for the first time Been shipping like crazy getting to the last remaining feature requests and bugs on ideasandbugs.com Went down from 30 yesterday to just 10 left today! I essentially copy paste the bug or feature requests in Claude Code and let it fix it and then test

@petergyang I'm still on M1 MacBook Pro, it's going strong. The only thing that bogs it down is if I'm doing local maestro testing on the iOS simulator, but thats pretty rare. 24Gb ram and 1Tb HDD

I want to buy a new personal MacBook Pro - I’m still on M1 😅 Apparently Apple has both M5 and M6 coming out? Do you all prefer the 14 or 16 inch? Use case is vibe coding and video editing

Sonnet 4.6 — used for the main conversation (askClaude), GitHub issue creation/analysis, weekly analytics, and the admin bot Haiku 4.5 — used for memory compression (summarising old conversations), email triage, and the new PR plain-English summary The split is intentional — Sonnet for anything I see directly and Haiku for background processing tasks (speed + cost).

12h in working with OpenClaw All I got so far is frustration It's full of bugs: Telegram integration doesn't work 🤷‍♂️ The web is full of users who claim it's broken without any workarounds WhatsApp sends validation messages to my friends Discord I tried to get working for 2h, both ChatGPT and Claude gave up - I finally got it working by updating OpenClaw 🤯 Steep learning curve All I got so far are python scripts which I built with Cursor and now I painfully need to learn how to somehow connect to each other. I would be much faster writing individual scripts, all writing/reading from a SQLite and then I'd trigger them either with cron, starting manually or – heck even connecting to Discord or Slack I can just code myself much quicker than to debug with ChatGPT or Claude who get the cli options wrong 50% of the time because the project moves so fast. I would spare myself learning a whole ecosystem which seems so buggy that it's probably gonna break with the next update?

@reggevinci @philkellr for the last 2 days about 15 cents lol. I use Claude Code Max Subscription for coding, but my bots do everything else, customer support, admin, security. Any code issues spawn Claude Code sub-agents which use my subscription plan.

@StrengthClub1 @philkellr how is your token drain with your customer solution? openclaw is a furnace - why it sends whole session each time is beyond me i mean maybe this is how it should be but tokens disappear so fast even if all you do is just chatting and research

@noahkagan totally agree with this. spent the better part of 2 weeks trying to get it setup to help me run various software projects. In the end I dumped it and developed my own solution which works better in 3 days and I control everything.

Open claw is still overrated. Here's my hot take: Everyone asks around how do you use it - why? Cause no one has a use case they find invaluable besides making dashboards or trying to arbitrage Polymarket. Maintenance - I spend 80% of my time just keeping it online, remembering or fixing things. It forgets time and time again. Also sucks up all computer resources regularly. All the posts about SEO optimization, how they have 15 AI employees, etc. Are from people not making money. Token costs > Executive Assistant cost ($50 / hour). Turns out using better models and running tasks around the clock costs money. And trying to debug or explain things takes way longer than sending to my assistant (for now). It hurt my X account. When I had it run my X and then check my X for stats - I got throttled since it looks like a bot (cause it IS a bot!) - didnt realize it for a week. Every-single-person who's bragging about OpenClaw is mostly lying. When you ask them how it's really going it isn't as they seem. Is it awesome and hugely potential, yes. Still someways to go...

I'm currently building something better (I think) because OpenClaw has too many problems, and cron jobs just don't seem to work that efficiently. Plus I'm also worried about security and OpenAI owning it now. my system runs on VPS + telegram + GitHub issues. This is a react native mobile app so it sends videos of new features in telegram for approval, and automated E2E testing with maestro + GitHub actions.

✨ A dream I had finally came true: I can now chat directly with my sites to build any feature or fix any bug just via Telegram I've been playing with OpenClaw for 3 weeks now and it's great but I was always too scared to run it on any production server And I was right a bit as @marckohlbrugge was able to hack it by social engineering and acting as if it was me, and with enough tries it believed him, and was able to modify the server, change SSH keys etc. of course I had it isolated properly on its own VPS and it didn't touch anything sensitive (as it should!) Marc then reported that bug to @steipete who patched it fast But I wanted to try something more basic and simple, and I think maybe more secure: to just connect Claude Code on my server to Telegram which would be hard locked to only messages from me So I installed claude-code-telegram by @RichardAtCT on the server and run it as a system daemon and it works really well The cool thing is that I was already using Telegram for server errors like this: > Photo AI - ❌ Random credits giveaway failed (Attempt 30/30) with an exception: SQLSTATE[HY000]: General error: 5 database is locked So now I can just reply, "Ok fix this", and Claude Code on the server in production will try (and probably succeed) in fixing it In the video below I asked it to make show [🌳 Parks ] on the map by default on load, it did that, then I reloaded the page and it instantly worked One thing it still needs is sending actual messages while it's doing stuff which OpenClaw does really well, it's annoying to just wait while it says "Working..." but that's probably next

A shocking number of people don't know that you can use Openclaw with your claudecode subscription. So many people buying API's for anthropic as well. I have a lot to show a lot of you...
