Cardiorespiratory fitness is the best indicator of longevity and a huge indicator of stroke risk too. The little things we do week in week out are literally life or death over the years.

3 species of Orchid spotted in the hospital grass in the last 3 weeks! So excited to finally see a bee orchid and never thought I’d see my first in the grounds @WHHNHS - thank you to the estates team for adopting a no/low mow strategy and letting the biodiversity flourish ❤️

Sleep is the foundation. Without enough sleep you're putting yourself at risk of heart disease, stroke and diabetes. You'll probably feel rubbish too. Fixing sleep is key to fixing your life.

Just listened to this Podcast with Dr Peter Attia. For me Attia is the model for the kind of healthcare I'd like to deliver. Proactively seeking out and combatting the major causes of illness before they can take root open.spotify.com/episode/3uCL9T…

Enjoyed this from my mate Ed and the Chemist Couple. My take home? It's better to lose weight through diet and exercise. But for some people that's just not achievable. The risks of obesity need to be weighed up carefully against the risks of treatment. youtube.com/watch?v=nj0D24…

@CoffeeBlackMD Valid point that we can't fix everyone. Fortunately, most families get that when they've had time and support to process the initial shock. How to avoid losing that reserve in the first place? I've seen weight lifting grannies. We need to maintain our functional reserves.

If your loved one is over 80, yes, I know, they WERE living independently before this new awful thing happened to them. This will no longer be the case. As we age we live closer and closer to our physiologic reserves until we are basically living at them. If you have no reserve, you can’t rally. You won’t be the same after. If you survive. Setting realistic expectations for you guys … If you want me to “do everything.” And I will, if you tell me that’s the direction we are going in, and I’m pretty good at saving people, remember it’s not on the rest of us to figure out the final details then where your loved one will end up living or how to get them everything they need in their new situation. Keep this in mind when you ask for what you ask for.
