It seems it doesn’t matter that the Greens didn’t pass the ‘Zionism is racism’ motion yet. It’s become a key plank in their campaigning for the local elections. I was speaking to a friend in Islington today who said she was still angry from an encounter with a Green activist who came to her door and said, ‘I want to talk you about Zionism.’ My friend told her: ‘I am a proud Zionist.’ To which the activist turned on her heel. Half an hour later, a FB acquaintance sent me a message about a similar experience. This is what he wrote: Hi Nicole! This morning I spoke with 2 Green Party activists putting pamplets in doors. I expressed my distaste for the current Greens and why. The fellow tried to Jewsplain to me about 'Zionsm' being not Jewish. Then he asked my thoughts on Gaza, stated that "Zionism" is in charge of the situation in Gaza. I asked if he had ever heard of October 7. He said, "I believe 7 October is a hoax." This is a significantly strengthened Terms of Reference for the national grooming gangs inquiry. The initial draft did not, amongst other things, examine ethnicity and religion, nor did it ensure those in positions of authority like politicians or police officers would be investigated. I am pleased the Conservatives' demands on these points, reflecting those of the survivors who contacted us, have been addressed. I thank Baroness Longfield for working with me constructively on this. But there are more questions to address such as how survivors will be engaged and which exact locations will be investigated. That is why my team will continue to work with survivors, their families, and anyone who wants justice.

Last week I asked Keir Starmer to grant licenses for North Sea drilling. He hid behind Ed Miliband and legal process. If he doesn’t have the backbone to stand up to the Energy Secretary, @Conservatives have published a bill which would unlock licenses and get Britain drilling.

Another deeply troubling move from this increasingly authoritarian government. The Labour Party has removed the whip from Karl Turner — one of the most outspoken critics of plans to restrict our long-standing right to trial by jury. The Chief Whip didn’t even have the decency to tell him in-person. Instead, the decision was briefed to the press and followed up with an email citing his remarks and conduct. Apparently, speaking forcefully in defence of fundamental liberties is now a problem. Meanwhile, Lammy presses ahead with his sinister proposal restrict our right to trial by jury — despite having no manifesto mandate. He also continues to ignore the serious warnings from the country’s most senior legal figures. Whatever your politics, the right to a fair trial by jury is a cornerstone of our system. This Government is a disgrace. Credit to @KarlTurnerMP for taking a stand.
