Scotland is famous for its hills and scenery, but the spectacle of the Waverley steaming up the Clyde surely has to rank as one of our country’s greatest sights.

Jenny Gilruth is very popular in the SNP and her appointment shouldn’t be as surprising as some seem to find it. One friend said she’s a “grafter” who didn’t shy away from issues like guidance for schools supporting trans kids and the grooming gangs inquiry in last parliament.

@murdo_fraser @blablafishcakes Considering he struggled with pressing a vote button on Monday, his swiftness in drafting this motion is . . . impressive.

New Green MSP has a motion calling for a ban on ‘conversion practices’. This is no more than an attempt to criminalise gender critical voices. Parents who question a child seeking to transition risk a prison sentence. No civilised society should accept this nonsense

Most staggering quote of a truly mind-bending briefing to the Times: "Allies of the prime minister also suggested that Burnham’s candidacy for the leadership could yet be scuppered if Labour goes on to lose control of Greater Manchester. Some Starmer loyalists argue that Labour losing the mayoralty would fatally undermine Burnham’s appeal as an election winner"

BREAKING | Reports circulating in the past few hours say the Russian Ambassador to the UN told the Security Council that Ukraine intends to launch drones from Latvia and other Baltic states. Moscow has been publicly building the narrative for weeks that the Baltic states allow drone attacks from their soil against Russia. Pattern fits how Moscow builds pretexts, first the internal narrative, then the diplomatic move, then the operational one. What could follow: continued political destabilization, hybrid provocations on the border, or in more extreme scenarios something more direct.

@groby @archeohistories Yes badly worded, but think he was saying GC got $14M bucks, put $1M into each suitcase, and gifted them to his pals. Which is pretty cool too

In 2013, George Clooney gifted $1 million in Tumi suitcases to each of his 14 closest friends during a dinner party, personally covering the taxes as well. According to longtime friend Rande Gerber, Clooney told them: “I’ve got good news and bad news. The good news is, I’ve got your money. The bad news is, I don’t have it anymore.” Each friend also received tax coverage so no one would owe a cent. Clooney’s decision was inspired by gratitude rather than extravagance. These were the friends who had loaned him money, given him a couch to sleep on, and stood by him before fame. The act became legendary in Hollywood, a reminder that wealth means little without generosity. Clooney’s friend Rande Gerber later said most recipient was a working professional, some barely making ends meet, and that Clooney’s gift “changed their lives overnight.” © History Pictures #archaeohistories

@archeohistories Yeah, if you're working to make ends meet, a set of suitcases is exactly what makes your life so much better. Also, how the hell do you spend $70k per person on Tumi suitcases? Did he built a fort for them, or something?

The BBC is running a story trying to pull at our heartstrings for starving fathers in Afghanistan who are ready to sell their young daughters just to buy food. One man weeps while holding his seven-year-old twins, saying he'll sell one to feed the rest. Another already sold his five-year-old. I don't care how hungry I get I would never do this. Not in a million years. These beautiful, innocent little girls are being treated like goods to be traded by the very men who are supposed to protect them. Instead, they're guarded by monsters. Poverty and hunger are horrific, but selling your own child isn't an "impossible choice" it's a moral failure. The BBC can frame it as tragic desperation all they want, but we should be disgusted and outraged for the daughters, not feeling sorry for the fathers willing to do this. These children deserve real protectors, not men who see them as a survival asset. Absolutely sickening

🚨: 'My battery is low and it's getting dark' This was the last message sent by Opportunity Rover before losing the contact with Earth and shutting down forever after battling an extreme sand storm on Mars. Rover was expected to survive only 90-days on Mars but it kept exploring the Red Planet for nearly 15 years. Sent from 225 million miles from Earth, these last words will forever be remembered.
