@ACScricket I thought I'd read that Mushtaq (who'd been playing when his brother got 499) was working in Birmingham in 1994 and rushed to Edgbaston when it became clear that Lara might break record.

Woolmer is the owner of a cricketing coincidence as they only person known to have watched both the two highest FC innings. His father was working in Karachi, and dropped the 11 year old Woolmer at the ground where he reported at the end of the day's play "Someone got 499, Dad". 35 years later, he was coaching Warwickshire when Brian Lara was 285* at lunch on the last day, in a dead match with no reason not to let him bat on. Lara casually asked Woolmer what the FC record score was, to which the coach replied "499. You're not going for that?"

Bob Woolmer died on 18th March 2007. He had been a successful coach for South Africa and Pakistan & he played 19 Test matches for England scoring 1,059 runs at 33.09. His batting average in ODI’s was a mere 5.25. In all 1st class cricket he took 420 wkts & scored 15,772 runs.

@RugbyTigers Isn't Europe pretty devalued already with the continuing use of the "covid fornat" and the inclusion of non-European teams?

All the talk of resting players as with autumn it should be in the 1st 2 weeks of prem making it fair across the teams, as if you're out of Europe you get a freebie weekend, and completely devalued Europe

@Telegraph There was a public vote and the winner was putting animals on bank notes rather than people. That's democracy... unless we don't want to respect that any more?

@173Cricketchat Marshall. Saw plenty of both, Cummins is a top player in his era, Marshall is a great of my lifetime of watching (approaching 60 years).

A question for a Friday morning: Who is (was) the better player? Pat Cummins or Malcolm Marshall?

@Abiodunawoyale @NizeyimanaJmv9 Try the M8, many more works of art alongside it (although perhaps not as impressive as the Kelpies) and you'll have more time to admire them because of the congestion!

Sachin’s first test century. Returns to pavilion having saved a test match for India. Question for you, how many of these can you identify?

Whenever I hear some commentator go on about the need of all rounders, I am reminded of the fact that the two greatest teams of my era - Clive Lloyd's West Indies and Steve Waugh and Mark Taylor's Australia had hardly any world class all-rounders.

@SomersetGrockle @AnnieChave @jimmaxcricket In reality the MSM is fixated by the Premier League in August and cricket in any form will be sidelined. June and July are key months to get public awareness of cricket out there, particularly in years when there's no an international football tournament on.

@PippaMusgrave1 @SimonMcCoyTV Except most research shows that that isn't true, most people vote for the candidates who represents the party they want. Once you get above the smaller wards in local councils most voters won't know candidates personally so rely on party manifestos as "what they stand for"

Scheduled for debate in the Commons on March 16: “By-elections to be called automatically when MPs defect to another party”. Hurrah.

@fredfertang I was there. Once in, he treated Thommo with disdain and hit Alan Hurst for five 4s in an over before lunch. We all settled down for the fireworks after lunch only for him to get caught on the square leg boundary off of leg spinner Jim Higgs.

You didn't often see Barry Richards batting defensively with a look of grim determination on his face, but he made an exception when batting for Hampshire against the powerful 1975 Australians - he scored 96 in the first innings, and retired hurt on 69 in the second

@TheMiddleStump A couple of thoughts. The late Huw Morris was better than both of your openers. David Sales was the proverbial flat track bully back in the day for Northants.

The Waspi women had 30 years notice that they wouldn't be getting state pension at 60 years old, I think that's long enough.
