Net migration has fallen 82%. I promised to restore control to our borders. My government is delivering. I know there’s more to do, we’re introducing a skills-based migration system that rewards contribution and ends our reliance on cheap overseas workers.

Not the results we wanted. And not the results that good Labour councillors and candidates deserved. But we should not turn inward. We can work our way back, if we’re bold and give people hope for the future. That starts with security.

For the last two years Keir Starmer and Labour have dismissed ordinary working class people as “far right” for raising concerns about immigration, crime, free speech and the direction of the country. These election results are a message back: You can call us whatever you want. We don’t care anymore. You ignored the public, talked down to them and treated disagreement as extremism. Now you’re finished.

These are tough results for Labour. There’s no sugarcoating it. We’ve lost brilliant Labour representatives who’ve stood up for their communities. People are still frustrated. Their lives aren’t changing fast enough. We haven’t offered enough hope or optimism for the future. I was elected to change this country - tough days like this don’t weaken my determination to do that. They strengthen it.

Nigel Farage and Kemi Badenoch wanted to jump into the Iran war with both feet without thinking through the consequences. For a party that always does what’s right for Britain, vote Labour this Thursday.

These are tough election results for Labour and I’m sorry to all of those colleagues who have lost their seats. Keir Starmer won a mandate to change our country. We must get on with delivering that mandate - and show how politics can improve people’s lives for the better.

Great to be out and about in Seacroft, chatting with residents and campaigning for our local candidate John Tudor. John’s a Seacroft resident and works for everyone in the community. Vote John! He’s a Councillor who gets things done. Stop Reform’s Trump-style politics!

The war in the Middle East is not our war, but it is one we have to respond to. Every choice I make will be about keeping costs down for families and businesses, without repeating the mistakes we’ve seen in the past that resulted in higher inflation and higher interest rates.

The Monetary Policy Committee voted 8-1 to keep the interest rate at 3.75%. Find out more: bankofengland.co.uk/monetary-polic…
