I’d also expect some East Balkan outliers in a Roman setting there, just like those several so far from Dalmatia. Not sure if they’d be indicative of lasting colonies/settlements vs just melting into the “Roman mix” though.

If the Carpi theory is in play, question is how much Balto-Slav shift is from primary Arbanitic migrants vs secondary Slav admixture in core tribes.

e.g. That presumed Dacian from 🇷🇴 was a just a TAD steppe-shifted from Thracoid profiles.
Wielbark promoted even further spread north: proto-Slavs got it.

Y27522 is the other major lineage(Y86181 more specific subclade), and that one seems shared to a greater extent with Slavs per Yfull’s sampling.
We also find more aDNA(pre Akbari) in late and post-antiquity East Europe north of the Danube.

But there’d still be layers of Hellenization in the area: some old timers, some fairly recent.
And no surprise about Avlona *city* being Greek-speaking ofc

Sometimes it’s a question of “what”: proximity to core Byz & participation in its urban/trade network. Prestige.

@DrRob82 @FortressLugh I’m saying the Albanian*-specific J2b clades (near exclusive long row of 🇦🇱 + 🇲🇪 flags on Yfull) aren’t found in Cetina nor in Roman Illyricum or Moesia even. They’re cousin clades.
But we do see them in Late Antiquity Carp/Pannonia area.

The 2 known Albanian-specific meso-clades of J2b are absent south-west of the Danube in antiquity, but do show up in Carpatho-Pannonia (aDNA).

The frequency of E-V13 in Albanians is at frequency of 30-75% , is 2x-3x that of J2b-L283.
It is essentially lacking in Bronze Age/ Iron Age west Balkans, and moved to west Balkans c. 600-700 AD.
The authors (from FraudArchivist forum), seem to ignore this fact because they wish to propose a simplistic monolithic model

This isn’t a dig at anybody by the way - it simply shows that if you’re a pro-Russian Armenian and want better Armenian-Russian relations, you should be aiming for a European Armenia.
Russians like and respect a European Armenia. Russians don’t like or respect Russian Armenia or Middle Eastern Armenia.
The same applies more broadly to Turks, Iranians, Arabs, etc. Whether they openly admit it or not, they tend to respect and take a European Armenia more seriously.

As a matter of fact, since Armenia moved away from Russia’s orbit and towards Europe, the attitude of the Russian communities towards Armenians seem to be improving. More Russians are visiting Armenia, speaking positively about it, even learning Armenian. I can’t help but notice the contrast. When Armenia was firmly in Russia’s camp as a loyal ally, many Russians treated it like a shithole. But once Armenia started moving towards Europe, the general attitude among ordinary Russians appears to have shifted noticeably in a more positive direction. An interesting contrast.
