Today, as we speak out against genocide, we’re told the comparison “doesn’t hold.” But it was Mandela himself who made it. And when critics say, “There is no Mandela of Palestine,” they ignore the truth: There is. His name is Marwan Barghouti. Like Mandela, Barghouti has spent decades in prison. Like Mandela, he symbolises a future of freedom. And like Mandela, he is being kept behind bars precisely because his release could unite his people and open the path to a real Palestinian state.
