Everyone in the world has to take a private vote by pressing a red or blue button. If more than 50% of people press the blue button, everyone survives. If less than 50% of people press the blue button, only people who pressed the red button survive. Which button would you press?

@CandidDevOps @HeidiBriones @waitbutwhy Look, I respect wanting to live, I get it. Trust me, I've made many choices in that vein. There were lots of times i should've stuck by people when I didn't, though. People suffer a lot when trustless decisions are made. It hasn't always been like this. Our heroes never did this.

@imperialis54259 @KyronKiranov @waitbutwhy nope! it is worth pointing out you weren't exactly thinking outside the box though. You were presented with an option and presumed no solution was possible save for the direct and obvious one presented. Like following your instincts, like.. an..

@CandidDevOps @HeidiBriones @waitbutwhy I mean it is factually true there will be very likely times you need help from people who are not necessarily at risk themselves. Helping you might put them at risk, do you want help or not? Do you want them to be selfless and help you, or leave you in big danger without help?

@SuchabigL @bob_mcblob @JThornbull @waitbutwhy I’ve met much more bad people in my life than good people. Like people that say they’d do good things and then their actions don’t match (typa ppl who’d say they press blue, then go red). Maybe I’d hit blue if the threshold was like 40%

@imperialis54259 @KyronKiranov @waitbutwhy I don't mean to be rude, but.. you realise you can *not* gnaw your leg off, and still escape a trap, right? The whole point of that is that only animals without reasoning would do so and those people are not fit to lead civilizations. I'd help you out of that, you wouldn't me.

@h4ckrj4ck @ecce_michael @fdondi1 @RandomSprint I know you disagree with what I'm about to say but.. Humanity is one thing.. you know? like, you and I are probably both white, but I'm from a completely different place and culture as you. You've got more in common with those immigrants than you do with me.

@ecce_michael @fdondi1 @SuchabigL @RandomSprint Blues suicidal empathy is the reason why reds are prevented from dealing with problems correctly. Blues are the people repeatedly releasing violent criminals and importing the 3rd world who share none of our values. They are the ones tying your hands during a fight. No loss.

If over 50% of us hold the line, we all live. "No!!! But if I run away, I'll definitely live! I'm so rational!"

@imperialis54259 @NookNino @RealPostFolder People pressing red claim they produce no harm because "blue's doing it to themselves" but the problem is it's established there's people voting who are committing no sin in their "irrational" vote (like babies), so any who vote red do so knowing those will be more likely to die.

@imperialis54259 @stammerov91 @NookNino @RealPostFolder Choosing to opt into potential harm is how tribes and our society even now survive. There will be outside dangers, like natures whims, that need collaboration to defend from. You will need to risk your life to survive. Cowardice begets only unneeded death and pain.

@imperialis54259 @SuchabigL @NookNino @RealPostFolder It’s not an “unknown result”. It’s an objective fact that some people will press blue, just like some will press red. Think of it like this: If 100% of people press red (impossible), then everyone lives Or 51% of people press blue, then everyone lives Easy choice to me.

@CandidDevOps @HeidiBriones @waitbutwhy uh.. yes it is? remember, this as a principle applies to things other than this poll. There *will* be choices where someone could save Your life, like someone needing to open their door to save you from a wolf attack. You'd want them to open that door, risking themselves for you.

@CandidDevOps @HeidiBriones @waitbutwhy I actually think no people dying here *is* one of the nice things we do get to have! Remember, if it went your way, there would have been lives lost. Suffering and death that did not happen at all because Blue won ^-^

@Branden1934 @MSmith457 @AJamesMcCarthy @waitbutwhy Get out of your head into the real world. Many will die in a world where red is chosen over blue. The real world is imperfect and messy so ACCOUNT FOR THAT IN YOUR THINKING and help those imperfect messy people, because one day, in a 'puzzle' with different rules it might be You.

@MSmith457 @AJamesMcCarthy @waitbutwhy Pushing red isn't selfish, it's smart. Push blue you will probably die. Push red and you live. Everyone can push red and live (humanity saved). There is no incentive to push blue.

I’m solidly on team blue, out of self-preservation. Let’s say I push the red button like 60% of people 40% of the world dies. The next day I go to the grocery store. The store didn’t open because the managers that have the keys all picked blue. We break windows to steal food, but the food is not replenished as the truckers that survived are concerned for their own family’s survival as the world descends into chaos and stay home. This problem is echoed across every factory in every industry. Supply chains are fragile, and a 40% labor shortage across most industries would collapse them before they have time to re-stabilize under the new lower demand. Survivors that manage critical infrastructure abandon their jobs to make sure they can provide for their families, as even if their paychecks are uninterrupted you can’t eat money. Neighborhoods would tear themselves apart as people compete for resources. Human life has a very short expiration date once people start going hungry, and civilization is more fragile than you’d think. Yes, if everyone pushed red everyone would live, but you know that won’t happen. The only way to guarantee your family’s survival isn’t to vote red, but blue, and hope enough people followed your logic and did the same. Pushing the red button seems smart on the surface, but is the more dangerous option if you think critically about the long term consequences.
