My local paper published a story about a new fleet of fancy trains in the north, presumably - finally - not fuelled by coal. It went on about the new accessibility features which were: 1. Braille on seats, which there's been for ages on pretty much every train already and, 2. More room for wheelchair users. ON 2: this does not mean more wheelchair spaces, it means the existing wheelchair spaces will have slightly more room. But we don't need more room. We need people to stop putting their fucking luggage in the wheelchair spaces and we need to be able to get on and off the train without assistance. We need to be able to turn up and travel like everyone else. I made a comment on the paper's site about how step-free boarding or passenger-deployable ramps are what wheelchair users actually need.... And the paper deleted my comment. I'm not sure what to make of that.
