Adventuring through the islands on our Cat
Katılım Ağustos 2023
274 Takip Edilen2K Takipçiler

You can ride a bicycle
across six Japanese islands.
43 miles of ocean below you.
Six giant suspension bridges
built specifically for cyclists.
You start in Hiroshima.
You finish in Ehime.
Along the way:
sleepy fishing villages,
lemon farms,
soft-serve ice cream stands at every port,
the sea breeze in every direction.
Not a race.
Not a tour.
Just you, a bike,
and an entire chain of islands
the country built a road over
so anyone could see them.
It might be the best ride on Earth.

Ian Weikel was my best friend when we were lieutenants. A year older and also married, I looked up to him and tried to follow his example. If I’ve been a good husband and Army Officer, it is in large measure because of him.
Ian left this mortal world 20 years ago in April 2006 when an IED struck his vehicle near Taji, Iraq. I’ve worn his KIA bracelet 24/7 ever since as a reminder to be a good man. It’s well worn now and tough to read… on the rare occasion I do take it off, like to go through airport security, I have to put on my reading glasses to tell which way to put it on. There is probably some symbolism there about getting older, the years that have gone by, the life I’ve lived, and the presence Ian continues to have in my life. I’ve never really thought about it like that until now…
While Ian was KIA that day in Iraq, he lives forever in me and every soldier I’ve ever led. He lives forever in those who loved him. He lives forever at the USMA Rugby complex where they’ve retired his jersey. He lives forever at the elementary school named in his honor on Ft Carson.
If you’ve followed along with these posts this weekend, I appreciate it. I appreciate you taking the time to read & think about my friends. In that way, you have honored them. I saved Ian for last because I knew it would be tough. I owe him too much to accurately describe. Forever young and the best of all of us.
Again, if you’re still reading - thanks.
I really do hope you had a meaningful weekend.

@miles_commodore Yes. More than ever. Its among the features that makes us a Republic rather than a democracy. It protects minority rights...numerical minorities not racial minorities.

June 16, 2024. Texas.
A 12-year-old girl is alive in the morning.
By the next morning, she is dead in a creek.
A woman on her way to work finds her.
Under a bridge. Her hands tied. Her feet tied.
She had been strangled.
She was twelve.
Two men had taken her under that bridge.
Both were grown men. Both were from another country.
And here is the part this country could not forgive.
Neither one of them was supposed to be here.
One crossed the border illegally. Border Patrol caught him. Released him the same day.
The other crossed the border illegally. Border Patrol caught him too. Released him too.
Caught. And released.
Caught. And released.
It gets worse.
One of the two men was wearing a government ankle monitor the night she died.
A GPS tracker. On his leg.
The government could see exactly where he was.
And a 12-year-old girl died anyway.
After she was killed, the court set their bond.
Ten million dollars. Each.
Ten. Million. Dollars.
That is the number the system reached for after she was already gone.
Not before. After.
Her mother could have disappeared into her grief. No one on earth would have blamed her.
Instead she walked into the United States Congress and sat down in front of lawmakers.
A mother. Testifying about her murdered daughter.
So that the next little girl might live.
They wrote a bill. It would force the government to actually hold people instead of releasing them with a tracker and a court date.
It was introduced in 2024. It died.
It was introduced again in 2025. It is still sitting in committee.
It has not passed.
Read that again. It has not passed.
She should be starting high school this year.
She should be arguing with her mom about her phone. She should be alive.
A border that did its job would have saved her.
Two men were caught. Two men were released. One of them was wearing a government tracker.
And a 12-year-old girl paid for all of it.
She was twelve years old.
Don't let this country forget what happened to her.
And God bless every parent still fighting to make sure it never happens again.

@elonmusk Starmer is quiet about this because he doesn’t want the public to understand it could be them next. He’s afraid of massive civil unrest. The truth is British people are being tormented and even murdered - they are 2nd hand citizens in their own country. Unreal.

Henry Nowak's last words were "I can't breathe."
The bodycam footage exists.
It was shown in court.
The public cannot see it.
Elon Musk said: "Not releasing it is an admission of guilt."
Here's what we already know from court testimony:
- Henry was stabbed, chased, and bleeding
- He scaled a fence to escape while dying
- Police arrived and handcuffed HIM - the victim
- His attacker accused him of racism
- The knife was hidden by the attacker's mother
- No officer has been suspended. Not one.
The footage that could end this cover-up exists.
British police are refusing to release it.
If you believe it should be released - sign the petition. Over 500 million people are on Change.org .
Henry deserves justice.
His family deserves the truth.
Why is the UK government still hiding it?

Robert Jenrick:
“Henry Nowak, on a night out is stabbed multiple times with a 21‑centimetre long knife.
He’s lying in a pool of his own blood, literally drowning in his blood.
The police come to the scene and instead of doing everything that they can to save his life, they handcuff and arrest the lad because there’s an accusation of racial abuse.
This is a scandal.
Will the Home Secretary come to the House and say what she’s doing to investigate the way the police conducted this matter?
And can we have a debate on two‑tier policing, which is doing so much to undermine respect for the police and for the rule of law in this country?”

@jaxon6743518501 @C_3C_3 Oh my heart goes out to this young man. And his family. Heinous days in England.
English

@C_3C_3 @mymomcare The police are as guilty as the one who stabbed him.
English

@C_3C_3 @mymomcare Watch what happens...
The guy with knife will walk.
The Police will take the fall.

@Kshi_nippon Hahaha, it should be able to manage! I’ll keep a look out but I’m not home much. Cruising on a boat, it’s nice.

One thing many foreigners notice in Japan 🇯🇵
Even in busy restaurants,
people are often surprisingly quiet.
Friends talk softly.
Families don’t scream.
And strangers respect each other’s space.
The atmosphere feels calm,
even when the place is full.
For Japanese people,
this is just normal.
Could this happen in your country?

@ScottPresler Cyndi, love ya, but… HAVE YOU LOST YOUR MIND??? Look with your mind and heart. America has THE BEST PRESIDENT EVER. EVER. We do miss you.

"They gave up two lives - the one they were living and the one they would have lived."
Today, we remember Chris Kyle(the Legend, the protector, the American Sniper)and Taya Kyle, the heart that stood beside him through every battle.
Chris answered the call with courage that became legendary. He laid down his life for God, Country, and Family.
Taya carried the weight of love, sacrifice, and unbreakable strength, even after the unthinkable.
Their story is one of honor, devotion, and the heavy price of freedom.
Though he is no longer with us, his legacy lives on in every American who cherishes liberty, in every family who knows what it means to wait for someone to come home, and in every heart that refuses to forget.
Rest in peace, Chris.
Thank you, Taya.🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
