Today was day 40 of my ski season. It was an odd day on the mountain. I left after only a few runs. It wasn’t because I had something to do or another obligation, it’s because something happened. Today's ski blog: neverquitskiing.com/blog/the-stran…

Anonymous I was flying Southwest from Dallas to New York. Three rows ahead of me, there was a young soldier in uniform. He looked barely 18. He was staring straight ahead, gripping the armrests. He looked nervous. When the drink cart came around, the flight attendant asked him what he wanted. 'Coke, please,' he said. 'Heading home?' she asked kindly. 'No, ma'am,' he said. 'Deploying. First time.' The whole row went quiet. The flight attendant didn't say a word. she handed him his Coke. Then, she got on the PA system. 'Ladies and gentlemen, we have a very special guest in Row 8 today. Private Miller is on his first deployment to serve our country. Since I can't buy him a drink, I’m going to ask a favor. If you want to write him a note of encouragement, pass it forward.' I grabbed a napkin. I wrote: 'You got this. Stay safe. - A dad from Row 12.' I watched as napkins traveled up the aisle. Napkins, receipts, pages torn from books. By the time we landed, the soldier had a pile of paper on his tray table three inches high. He stood up to get his bag, and he was wiping his eyes. He carefully packed every single scrap of paper into his rucksack. 'Thank you,' he told the flight attendant. 'No,' she said. 'Thank you.' We all walked off that plane a little quieter, reminded that freedom is just a word until you meet the kid who is defending it.

On the SS pod with GMM @goldmedalmel and @kylesockwell, they talked about showing team scores in college dual meets: " If I'm sitting here and I go to the bathroom and come back, I want that immediate context to know what happened while I was gone. You don't have that at a regular dual meet. I didn't even know the score when I was competing." - Kyle Our scoreboard software does exactly this. Scores are front and center. Fully customizable including scores, fonts, colors, and logos. Compatible with most timing systems and meet managers. Also comes with the ability to run workouts, diving, water polo, record boards, leader boards, streaming overlays, and live results. @specsaregood @SullivanTara parents don’t have to do that at a soccer game - parents ultimately decide a kids activities - 5 hours at a pool on a Saturday is ☠️

The vast majority of age group meets have to be 2 hours or less. This is swimming’s #1 issue.

Tim Hinchey invited all of swimming's podcasters to the Aqua Zone during Olympic Trials to stream live and everyone said no except for us. We did 9 live shows between Prelims and Finals in front of a live audience. We signed autographs. Took pictures. Gave tiny pace clocks away. Every day there was a crowd of people watching us record. We pulled in swimmers, coaches, and Olympic champions LIVE to talk about swimming. People absolutely loved it. It was undoubtedly the highlight of the Aqua Zone and anyone that disagrees clearly wasn't there. Tim Hinchey continues to take a lot heat from the SS comment section about negotiating a sweet deal for himself - but he always made time for us, actually listened to ours ideas, and made them happen. 2024 OT's was the best swim meet in the history of the world... And for that, I thank him.

@DRFLivingston @DailyRacingForm and we didn't even know how the pics were going to turn out! I can't even tell you how many times I had to re-shoot because I didn't get a pic that was good enough LOL the hours, the driving, the waiting, crazy! Life is so much easier/more efficient now!

@DailyRacingForm It's odd to think that, not long ago, historically speaking, we'd hope the lab was up-and-running (or pay extra to keep it open), make prints, ID and package prints, then drive to LaGuardia, Albany, + airports to the Delta Dash building. Overnight, often at our cost, to LEX.

I remember when Jonty Skinner came out 20+ years ago and said the same thing. They are two different sports.
