In #India , this includes concerns over the promotion of #Hindi at the expense of regional languages, perceived favoritism toward Hindu cultural symbols, and periodic communal violence. Events since 1947 including large-scale pogroms and mass violence,have left deep scars. While often labeled “riots,” some incidents, particularly the 1984 anti-Sikh pogroms, involved organized killings with apparent political complicity, resulting in hundreds thousands of deaths of innocent #sikhs. #Sikh provides a prominent example of these tensions.
